Adele & Sevie by Dust & Salt

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

Sevie and I love everything about winter, the snow, skiing, snowboarding, our friends and of course working in the beautiful mountains. We travel around the world living winter to winter.

During Australian winter we live and work at Mount Hotham, Victoria, and during the Northern Hemisphere winter we live in Aspen Snowmass, Colorado USA. Sevie is a passionate and enthusiastic ski instructor and Pilot, and I am an Early Childhood Educator and an all-around Disney enthusiast. When we aren’t living at ski resorts we enjoy traveling around the world, sometimes in Sevie’s four-seater plane, discovering new places, meeting new people and of course visiting all the Disney parks.

We wanted a magical fairy tale inspired wedding while also showcasing who we are and what we are passionate about, so what better place than our mountain where we met and spend most of our time together, Mount Hotham, Victoria, Australia. Sevie and I both work full time in management during winter so a middle of the season wedding would be out of the question, so we agreed on a week after the season finishing. During the planning process we daydreamed about having the ceremony at the top of the mountain and the more we talked about it, the more we realised this is exactly what we wanted. After some emails and meetings our dream started becoming a reality. The forecast leading up to the wedding was warm, blue sunny skies, but the morning of the wedding was scattered snow showers and minus 4 degrees. How perfect! As our guest rode the chairlift up to the top of the mountain the snow became heavier but that didn’t wipe the smile off their faces. At the top of the mountain our guests were
offered personalised blankets and umbrellas. My best friend, father and I rode the chairlift up last, by this time the snow shower was in full swing.
I didn’t feel the cold at the time, I was so excited being surrounded by the people I love and that my dream of a mid-winter wedding was happening in spring.

One of our guests described our ceremony as “Its like we were all in a snow globe and someone shook it really hard!”. After the ceremony we organised a luncheon at the Mount Hotham Fire Station, where Sevie is the 2nd lieutenant. Our wedding guests were able to warm up and enjoy something homemade to eat. We loved being around our guests and we even had a visit from the Mount Hotham Skiing Company Mascot, Harry the Snow Dragon. We spent the afternoon exploring the mountain peaks of Mount Hotham, were we encountered snow, wind, hail and very briefly some sunshine. Our photographer Lachlan was such a trooper, he braved the weather with us and took the most amazing photos. All of Lachlan’s photos captured the love and magic of our all-weather day. Everything from the venue to catering to décor was planned, organised and implemented by ourselves, with a lot of help from our friends and family. Sevie’s mother Robyn grew and arranged all the floral decorations and the two bouquet for the wedding. We were overwhelmed by her generosity and beautiful they turned out, especially covered in snowflakes. Every element of our décor was personalised, and we are very grateful for my father Bob’s creativity and passion towards the décor. From personalised cake knives, champagne
flutes, ring holders and even name placements.

Tell us about your main outfits:

I tried on over 40 dresses trying to find the one, I liked many dresses but would find something that wasn’t my liking on each. I found my dress when I wasn’t dress shopping, my mother and I were on our way to the airport to pick up my father when we got the call his flight was delayed by a couple of hours. We decided to pop into Fairytales Bridal Boutique in Moonee ponds. I told the bridal stylist what I was looking for and the details of my wedding, at once she pulled out the Kenneth Winston 1745 and immediately, I knew it was the one. My dress makes me feel like a princess, with the detail of the jewels flowing down the dress and the English netting. My best friends three-year-old son Harrison brought tears to my eyes when he said I looked like a princess, he then continued to repeat this throughout the day. Sevie wanted a timeless looking suit, so we decided to go with a fitted dark charcoal coloured suit with a pure white shirt and navy tie to complement our bridal party colours. We found his suit and had it tailor at Tarocash in Eastland.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Where to start? Our whole wedding was so magical and very personalised to who Sevie and I are and what we wanted. Riding the chairlift with my best friend Kathryn and my father to the top of the mountain, while hearing Disney’s When you wish upon a star really warmed my heart. My father walked me down the aisle to an instrumental version of Can you feel the Love Tonight from the Lion King, my eyes were focused on Sevie and I couldn’t stop smiling. Even though it was very cold and windy, this didn’t bother us. We wanted a winter wedding and that’s exactly what we got. We are both very grateful to all our friends and family who attended our wedding, Hotham is a six hour drive from Melbourne and we had guests attend from the out of state, the United States of America and England. It also brings warmth to our hearts how much time and effort people put into helping create our special day. Our guests were awesome, with huge smiles on their face they braved the weather during the ceremony. I have been told by our guests many times that it was the most memorable wedding ceremony they have ever experienced. Most guests had never seen the snow or been on a chairlift before, so they were excited to experience it with Sevie and I.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Do what works for you. Yes, it’s great to look and aspire to be like other couples, but they are not you and don’t live your life. Be true to yourselves and each other. “Life’s not a spectator sport. If watchin’ is all you’re gonna do, then you’re gonna watch your life go by without ya.” The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
