Together Loves | Captured by Keryn

Tell us about your photography background and what got you started in Wedding Photography? I was lucky enough to realise my dream job from the young age of 10 where I used to take some lovely photos that only my parents would think were good and have now been a full time photographer for over 10 years.  My first wedding was 7 years ago when I shot my brothers wedding on Waiheke Island.  I have fallen in love with weddings as they really have it all from documentary to fashion.  It's so special to be chosen to be the person that captures a couples intimate day.

Real Wedding: Justine & Angus – Photography by Fiona Anderson

We were after a castle, and Larnach Castle is the only castle in New Zealand. Once we found the church down the road we knew we had the right place for our special day. The beautiful old colonial church in Pukehiki is like something out of a picture book, and Larnach Castle in all its grand splendour is like a magical kingdom.

We were adamant about creating the whole day ourselves, which is no mean feat, especially trying to coordinate it all from another country (we live in Sydney). We designed everything from our own wedding cards to Angus’ suit jacket and my evening ball gown.

Real Wedding: Fiona & Chris – Photography by Danelle Bohane

We met four years ago at the Golden Sheaf Hotel in Sydney. I’m a Melbourne girl, but was in Sydney for work. Chris was on a typical Saturday night out with his brother, and managed to smoothly and swiftly get my number. The rest is history!

We love the same things - travel, food and wine - but above all things we love to laugh. We laugh constantly when we’re together, and it makes every day special and fun.

Chris proposed at Lake Como, at a beautiful old hotel called Villa D’este. I’d always dreamed of visiting this part of Italy.

Real Wedding: Josh & Emily – By Heather Liddell

Josh & Emily | Jpegs for layout-079

I’d planned to propose sometime during a night of romance, fine dining and a concert of one of our favourite artists. However, that afternoon there was a hectic game of Scrabble that Emily lost, followed by a hissy fit that threatened to disrupt the evening’s plans. Mid-argument I thought to myself, this is as real as married life will get, and if I can only express my love in a romantic setting, then how real is our love? So I pulled out the ring and proposed, kneeling by the bedside. Emily's response (through tears) was “Yes, but you could have waited till I put some pants on!"

Real Wedding: Marisa & Chris – Photography by Forged in the North

We first met briefly in high school at a friend’s Sweet 16 party. During our college years we reconnected at a mutual friend’s house party. Our first exchange of conversation was during a silly card game when I caught Chris’s attention by naming a category ‘Lunch Meats’.

Our wedding day really was a dream come true. The venue was a completely DIY location - a large undertaking when planning from another state. All the organising and crafting that went into the day made it that much more magical when it all came together.

Real Wedding: Courtney & Olivia – Photography by Tim & Nadine Kelly

We went traveling for a year in 2013, after being together for seven years. I think we both knew at that point we wanted to get married, and when New Zealand passed the marriage bill it consolidated that! I proposed to Liv on the Amalfi Coast, we were staying in a little apartment overlooking the water and because it was only a one-bedroom place I made her take a bath while I prepared a surprise (or not so surprise) dinner... Four hours later she came out wrinkled as a prune, I proposed, she said yes. Then about eight weeks later when we were in Paros in Greece, we took our scooter to a secluded beach, climbed up a mountain and Liv asked me to marry her. Wellington Wedding-13

Interview with Bayly & Moore

Tell us the story of how Bayly & Moore came about? Si was a musician and spending a lot of time recording and touring for different bands and Soph was working as a freelance designer at a few ad agencies, and we were both shooting stills on the side. Soph shot a band Si was playing with at a festival, they met up backstage and the rest is history. We both realised not long after meeting that we enjoyed being around each other romantically as well as creatively and we were both wanting to shoot more and push ourselves to become more focussed on photography, so we threw ourselves in the deep end by shooting a friends wedding and patching together any small jobs we could along the way. The learning curve was steep but wonderful. BM_ProfilePic_01

Real Wedding: Julia & Adam – Photography by Jake Thomas

Our advice to couples getting married - don't be pregnant, completely gut and renovate a house and plan a wedding at the same time! Make the day is about what you love, and invite who you want to invite not who you think you should invite. People will always understand. Make sure you have good food and good entertainment. It makes the night! Don't worry about the little things. People won't notice. But they will notice if you’re not relaxed and enjoying the day. Steal some time away at the end of the night. We went and sat amongst the grapevines and looked at the stars and watched our guests dance from afar - a moment we’ll never forget. 1279__DSC0182-2
