Cherelle & Jordan by Ryan Watts

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship… Jordan – I’m a junior Emergency Medicine Doctor born and raised in South Auckland. Cherrelle – surprise, surprise another doctor!

Jordan – Outside of work I like to think of myself as a bit of adventurer and head into the great outdoors any chance I can get. Mountain biking, surfing, rock climbing, hiking…you name it, I’m keen to give it a go. I try to take Relle out with me on my adventures, sometimes it ends in tears but she still keeps on coming (with enough nagging).

Cherrelle –You spend so long studying together and you may just realise you’re actually diggin’ the guy whose notes you borrowed for physics. I grew up amongst West and East Auckland, where some would say legends came from. If I’m not working 24hours on call, you’ll find me… nope scratch that, you won’t find me, I’ll likely be overseas eating a freshly cooked meal I found on a side street in some bustling foreign city, or wherever there is water; Ill likely be embracing my spirit animal – the turtle. And if I can be completely honest, if Jordan’s doing something cool outdoors, I’ll eventually copy him, he does some scary, yet rad stuff.

We share a deep love and appreciation for each other. Life is simply better with the other person.  We are best friends, like two peas in a pod, or B1 & B2 (Jordan’s definitely B2 though).

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

The venue we chose really dictated the theme. It was a restored old shearing shed. We tried to continue along with the rustic theme with our colour choices and decorations. We had haybales for the outdoor ceremony seating, hessian rollers for the tables, old fashioned tableware Etc. The venue really spoke for itself and we only added few personal details. We think everything tied in together nicely.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Jordan – I preferred the look of a light blue suit so it was a fairly easy choice. I went for a merino 2 piece suit at Hallenstein’s. The merino fabric is abit more breathable so was perfect for a summer wedding.  The maroon tie complemented the bridesmaid dresses well.

Cherrelle – This was the very first dress I liked. Simple, yet elegant in my eyes. An off-white colour slightly off the shoulders. I steered away from the lace to a sleek fine stretchy number. It was comfortable the entire night and kept good shape.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Definitely when Jordan shed some tears as I walked down the aisle.
Jordan crying was unheard of until this day. I wasn’t expecting it, but lo and behold, I had him weak at the knees. And it was at this moment I realised I had him good.
The ceremony itself was beautiful. It was so special to share our vows surrounded by friends and family. The Cook Island dance group got the evening’s festivities started the right way – and moved many joints previously thought to have been immobile.
At the end of the evening looking back on the day’s events we couldn’t have wished for it to have gone any better.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

For the wedding: Budget planning is essential. Excel spreadsheets work wonders. The actual day will fly past, so take it slow and enjoy the moments. We are nearly 1 year into our marriage so we don’t have many pearls of wisdom, but would say
For Marriage: Regular dates are key to keeping an interest/ spark/ bond between you both. Be quick to forgive and forget. Remember that you are responsible for your own happiness, not your spouse. Enjoy each day you get to spend in each other’s company. Tomorrow isn’t promised.
