Claire & Tom by Madeline Kate

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship … I, (Claire) am a primary school teacher and Tom works in Finance.

We went to the same school but didn’t have much to do with each other at the time, it wasn’t until about 5 years when I was moving out with a mutual friend that he suggested Tom also moves in with us. It was nice that we were able to get to know each other as house mates before lovers! It also meant that we knew lots of each others annoying traits very early on! Tom moved overseas for 18 months and we casually kept in contact, until he was about to come home and we met up in Italy. Needless to say after that he came home from London and that was that!

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details … I really wanted a surprise wedding but Tom wanted to have special more formal occasion, which I appreciate where he was coming from. We knew we wanted in Black Tie but without the stiffness. We also wanted a venue that held the reception and ceremony in the one spot so guests could kick back and enjoy once they had arrived. I love flowers, so I knew they would be a big feature of the wedding, and I love how they turned out. Tori Allen arranged to have a wrapping station at the end of the night for guests to take home the flowers it was really lovely receiving texts and pictures of people enjoying the flowers in their homes after the wedding. Since Butler Lane is a blank canvas, I was really keen on having bright flowers to go with the beautiful green wall they have and the white balloons we had installed on the roof.

Tell us about your main outfits: Georgia Young is fabulous. I wanted a modern fun dress and her line fit that perfectly. It was nowhere near what I thought I would wear when I first started out looking but I made sure I tried on all different styles to see what suited best. Tom wanting to look dashing in his black tuxedo and he certainly did, but I am biased. The suits fitted all the the groomsmen perfectly.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day? Having all of our family and friends in the same spot to help us celebrate! As cliche as that sounds you really don’t appreciate that fact until the day.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together? Don’t worry about the small things, it all works out in the end. Enjoy the process as the lead up from being engaged to married is a lot of fun.
