EMMA + EAMON by Mikayla Bollen Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

We are a young couple totally in love. I work from home with my online business and Eamon always is doing something new. At the moment he is pursuing his life-long dream of become a stunt man alongside everything else he does for work.

We love to go on adventures, learn new things and be in nature. Date nights each week are essential, you could find us at painting classes, rock climbing, dining in fabulous restaurants and everything in between. We have been together for the past 4 years, since we met at work, coaching gymnastics. For years, we each had a crush on each other, but
never spoke a word, just admired from afar while working. We were both way too shy. We’re so glad that I (Emma) gained the courage to start that first conversation. We have been best friends ever since. Our relationship is unique because we don’t believe we complete each other; we believe we
are two whole people who are there to support, love and encourage each other in all that we do. We are in constant pursuit of each other. In a continual race to the back of the line.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

We decided to elope, but wanted to do it in the most beautiful way possible. We wanted to keep it very intimate, to keep our love the focus of the day, because, at the end of the day our love is the reason we were there. The day started stormy as anything, with torrential rain (coming sideways) and gale force winds, while we were cosy inside of the orchard coPage. We planned to get married outside under the northland sun, in the orchard. But God had other plans so we adapted and got married in the window over-looking the orchard and hillside instead. It was beyond perfect. We were very worried that the stormy weather wouldn’t ease for us to go outside or down to the beach, but miraculously half way through the ceremony the storm passed and stopped completely. We then cut our cake and snacked on our platter.

So after the stormiest morning in months, we still had our dream of taking photos in the orchard, with the sun peeking through, and it held out for the rest of the day meaning we got some photo at Kauri mountain beach. We have the unusual weather patterns to thank for the fact that there was no one else on the entire beach! It was our dreams come true. We had nothing to take our minds off of our post-wedding bliss for the rest of the day, and enjoyed each other’s company with absolutely no stress at all, watching the sun go down with a champagne toast to our lives together.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Eamon looked incredibly handsome and complimented my dress exquisitely. He was wearing very neutral sandy colours with a pop of navy blue in his bowtie and braces. His outfit went well with both the gorgeous coPage and the beach. He was comfortable, the clothes could breathe and move, which as you can imagine, made the day far more enjoyable.

My first dress of the day was very beautiful, and classy, with a sweetheart neckline, open back with a stunning tie detail, lacing and long angel-like sleeves. It was actually the first and only dress that I tried on, and was exactly what I had in mind and on my mood board. It suited the lovely little cottage and the way it was styled, which was a happy coincidence. My hair was up in a messy bun to show off the detailing of the back of the dress. My white heels lifted the whole outfit, without drawing
too much attention.

The second dress was the dress my mother had been married in about a year prior, and was perfect for the beach. Off came my shoes and the more formal dress, and I slipped into a lacey, off the shoulder, tight fitting dress. Bare feet down on the beach. The dress was lovely to move, run, jump and dance in, so we had the best time in the sand and weren’t scared to step in the shallows.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

The weather changing from a crazy storm to clear and gorgeous sunshine, mid-way through our ceremony. It being just us two there, we were able to stay in our little love bubble the whole day with no distractions.
Having the most incredible videographer and photography who brought the most beautiful vibe to the day, made it the best day ever. Also once the photos and videos were done, we sat in the coPage watching the sunset over the hillside with a glass of bubbly, and called our friends and family to tell them the exciting news of our day.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

Spend just as much, if not more, time and energy on the quality of your relationship (preparing to be married), than you spend on all the wedding planning and preparation. Your wedding day is so special and incredible but your love and marriage is the most important thing.
