Flor & Shane by Peyton Curry

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We met when we were just 18 and 19 years old in a college party and were introduced by mutual friends. We were instantly drawn to each other (yes, very cliche) and have been inseparable ever since.

Shane proposed on our 7th anniversary in our home. I was returning home from a work trip and Shane insisted that he pick me up from the airport despite normally I’d just opt to take a cab. I noticed as soon as I walked through the door that he had our patio decked out in string lights and pictures of us from over the years while my favorite musical soundtrack – La La Land- was playing in the background! I still swoon over the thought of that day. Shane is a real estate agent and I work in consulting.

We love watching classic Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino movies, binge watching Netflix shows and will take any excuse to go on a date to eat at a trendy restaurant or spend a day at a winery. We both are career driven individuals but also aim to focus on spending time with each other and with our friends and family in our free time. What we love most about our relationship is that we are each other’s biggest supporters and are extremely family-oriented. We are honest with our opinions and provide guidance when we need it. We have both been lucky enough to be exposed to such selfless, unconditional love that our parents have shown us. We love that we have basically grown up together and have shared so many memorable life experiences.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We are naturally very minimalistic yet intentional when it comes to design and wanted to implement that style in our wedding. We both were infatuated with the different shades of lush greens that the resort offered, which was the true inspiration behind the type of florals and decor we ended up having. We would describe it best as a “tropical minimalist” wedding celebration. Since the resort offers such breathtaking surroundings, we felt that we really didn’t need a lot of additional decor. We particularly loved the tropical florals that were unique to that area of the world and wanted those to stand out for the bouquets.

Tell us about your main outfits:

I was in between two very different styles for my dress but ultimately chose the one that felt like more of a statement dress. My dress was a strapless form fitting, offwhite underlay that was subtly topped by white lace with intricate details. The alterationists did truly amazing work in ensuring the fit was unique to my shape. Shane is generally very picky with his outfits and wanted a specific shade of blue for his and the guys’ suits. We ended up customizing every detail of his suit together which ended up being SO much fun. His suit had the specific radiant blue hue we were looking for with a faint plaid pattern to top it off. We opted for the no tie look for him and the groomsmen since we wanted it to be less formal in a tropical setting.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

It was the hottest and most humid day of the entire week we were there, thus leading to a massive rainstorm that affected both our outdoor ceremony and reception locations. While the rainstorm obviously wasn’t part of the plan, it ended up creating such a romantic and intimate indoor ceremony. There was lightning that struck through the windows above us during the sunset through pink clouds. We couldn’t keep our eyes off of each other during the entire ceremony and it felt like an absolute dream. Our reception ended up being the most fun dance party we’ve ever had. All while being surrounded by so much love and support from our closest family and friends!

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

To ensure to always put each other first. We think having this in mind for your future together will redirect your attention to what really matters and to appreciate the little things. This proved to test us on the day of our wedding! While the thunderstorm shifted our day-of plans quite significantly, all that mattered at the end of the day was looking into each other’s eyes and feeling the magic that we have together.
