Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…
We met almost 6 years ago, through mutual friends. A nurse and a tradie, classic Australian couple. We both love food, adventures, festivals, spending time with our friends and most of all our fur babies, Willow the kelpie and Indi the kelpie X koolie…
It’s a running joke that we are quite opposite to each other and quite similar to the dogs. Jack is like Indi, laid back and chill. Whereas Willow and I are similar in that we are hyperactive and always up for something to do. We balance each other out perfectly. We’ve travelled Europe together, purchased our house, raised our doggos, next step for us was to tie the knot! We decided to go ring shopping together, but Jack would make the proposal a surprise. So one night after work, Jack called me into our room. There he was, with Willow our dog, with a flower, a note and a ring tied to her collar. In all the excitement, Willow decided to run off down the hallway with the ring still attached. We had to chase her around the house to finally get it back and make it official.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…
The style we chose to go with for our big day came from our love of music and festivals. We wanted the day to be a big festival celebration of our love, with all our favourite people. One of the main reasons we chose Camp Sunnystones was the on site accommodation. We wanted to continue the party all night long and into the morning, so the ‘school camp’ style bunk bed accommodation was absolutely perfect! Plus, the venue allowed pets, which was a necessity with our fur babies. We were able to wake up in the morning, with all our friends and family (and dogs) and reminisce about all the memories of the day/night over breakfast and coffee. Having always been obsessed with weddings, I wanted to plan and style most of the day myself, employing the incredible Vagary Creative to take care of the ‘on the day’ setup. Every detail of the reception was exactly how I envisioned it. The naked tipi was definitely my favourite detail. It looked absolutely stunning, and made a cute little lounge hangout.
Tell us about your main outfits:
I wanted the whole ‘white bridal gown’, but also something that fitted the theme of ‘festival’. Rue De Seine has always been where I wanted to get my gown, having admired their styles for years, and the Avril gown was absolute perfection. Beautiful and detailed bridal gown, with the flair of a festival outfit. And no festival is complete without a flower crown. So once the formalities were over, I donned my incredible ‘Florence and Alice’ flower crown, which was designed specifically for me, with my bouquet and style in mind. Jack, not as into fashion, wanted himself and the boys to look classic, but chill. And of course, wanted to stand out. So he went with a nice tan blazer to finish off his outfit. Along with matching Peggy & Finn bowties and socks.
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?
The most memorable moments of the day definitely happened on the dance floor. Jack and Jordan were so engaging and got everybody dancing. Jack had worded them up that I was into old school emo music, so they came up with the goods, playing some classic Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boys tracks. Any requests thrown at them were too easy for these talented boys. We had so many comments and compliments on the entertainment! Another memorable moment, which I recommend to anyone, was our first look. It was such a beautiful moment to see each other before the big moment, to just embrace each other and have that time alone. Plus, getting a lot of photos out of the way before the ceremony meant we could spend more time later on with our guests!
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?
Our advice for any couples planning their big day is to take in every single moment! Everybody tells you that it goes so fast, but my god it does go so fast! Take in every hug, every smile, every memory! And keep it true to you as a couple. If you’re not traditional, go for your own style and make your own tradition. The day is about you and your love, not expectations of what a wedding day should look like.
