Lyndal & Nick by Georgia Verrells

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship … Nick is an accountant, Lyndal is an architect.

We’re generally pretty relaxed homebodies and enjoy simple things – food, cooking, books, doing stuff around the house, being creative (Lyndal), surfing (Nick) and a bit of travel whenever we can. Nothing unique about our relationship – just two people who love each other and are best friends.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details … No theme – just laid back and fuss free. The venue was all that we needed and set the tone for the day. A small wedding with 64 guests. Took advice from all the vendors and let them do their thing – they know best!

I am creative so I opted to make as much as possible and hunted around for décor that I thought suited the venue. I had a rule that I wouldn’t purchase anything that I couldn’t use again – it’s one day after all!

I made all the signage, menus, favour tags, invitations etc. My dad made the welcome sign frame and the menu holders. My mum planted wicker baskets with white flowers to position on the steps of the verandah (most people assumed these were just part of the venue’s usual setup – which was exactly the plan). My sister made the herb pot wedding favours

Tell us about your main outfits:

I wasn’t keen to look for a wedding dress, it wasn’t something that seemed overly important so I just hunted around on Pinterest for something I thought would suit me and then had a local dressmaker (who had made my sister’s wedding dress the year earlier) make it for me – we altered it along the way based on her advice and it turned out perfectly. I knew I didn’t want something complicated, just something simple that would flatter me and seem appropriate for a winter wedding.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day? We opted to not see each other before the ceremony so the build-up to the ceremony was heightened and made the first glimpse of each other special.

Writing our own vows added to the day, it was an opportunity for our family and friends to get an insight into what we value in each other and our relationship.

The photographs in the rain are proof that weddings don’t need to be perfect, it’s the unplanned things that can make the day memorable.

Looking out the rear window of the car as we left the reception – we had a sparkler send off and the farm looked amazing all lit up with the guests waving the sparklers.
