Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We meet at a bar, the next night we were at a Japanese restaurant for a date, a week later we were at a gig, and before we knew it we were well on our way to falling madly in love that summer of 2012…

We’re kindred spirits – we love travelling, adventure, fishing and diving, tennis, music and hosting our nearest and dearest with delicious food and drinks. Our relationship has always felt rare and precious in the sense there’s been so much love, but also everything has always felt so easy. We’re on the same page / wavelength 99% of the time! And we’ve never been so grateful for our strong relationship than in the last 6 months whilst we’ve been navigating parenthood together!

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We got married in our special place, on Moturoa island in the Bay of Islands. Its where we first said I love you, where we got engaged, and where some of our best memories have been to date. It was amazing getting everyone onto the island for our special day and day after party (the crazy logistics were worth it).

Tell us about your main outfits:

I (Noelle) wore my dream dress. I saw a picture of it on Instagram and very serendipitously got an email that week from the Suzanne Harward mailing list advertising a presale for the very same dress so jumped at the chance and decided to go all in without trying it on, buying it and just sending in my measurements. Lucky for me it fit perfectly and I absolutely LOVED wearing it. Duff really wanted to wear a dinner suit and his was from Boggi Milano as we were living in Doha at the time of our wedding planning and that was the best shop we could find for suits.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Our good friend Susie was our celebrant, and our ceremony felt very true to us. Our vows were very personal and sharing them in front of our nearest and dearest was an unexpected thrill and highlight. We also planted a pohutakawa as part of the ceremony and we love seeing how much its grown every time we go back to the island

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Showcasing the beautiful surroundings, the local produce, and making sure everyone had a special time with amazing food, drinks and music was of utmost importance to us. So the stand out features on the day for us were the Topkata tipi style marque, the insane menu by Ake Ake Vineyard that featured lots of our favouite foods (lots of kai moana, pork belly, eye fillet, fresh salads), The Boulder Bay wine and Phathouse beer on tap, and Matt Stone and Coachella+ band keeping everyone on their feet dancing all night. Our MCs, speeches and also our day after party were also up there with most memorable moments.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

1)  Don’t sweat the small stuff- something won’t go to plan on the day but that’s OK because you get the marry your person and have the best party with all the people you love in the same place.

2) If the budget allows, get a videographer. It was a last minute addition for us and we are so glad we did. With the heightened emotions, its amazing what you might miss on the day or how quickly you can forget things; what was said in a speech, how your partner looked as you were reading your vows. We absolutely treasure our video now and are so thankful we have it. Ben from Side Project films is a magician and created something so special for us, we can’t recommend him enough.
