Olivia & Jacob by Marcella Laine

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship … Olivia is a pediatric critical care nurse and works at Randall Children’s Hospital in Portland, OR, Jacob is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and works at an PT clinic in Vancouver, WA.

We love love love music, listening to vintage records on our record player, watching movies, drinking coffee in any & all forms, kayaking, playing with our dog (Juniper aka Juni aka June-bug), riding bikes, going on walks, antiquing, listening to audiobooks together, trying new restaurants & breweries, doing crafty projects together. Jacob loves golfing, small building/carpentry projects and Olivia loves running, cooking, decorating and yoga. We are opposite personalities but it works well and we balance each other out! Olivia is more extroverted and Jacob is more of an introvert but extroverted at times. Jacob is a romantic and has a way with words! Olivia used to love reading his personal blog that he had in college! We love singing along to music, Jacob plays the guitar and Olivia the piano. Olivia does most of the cooking and Jacob makes us coffee every morning – he loves collecting coffee gadgets. We met in college in Walla Walla, WA and then reconnected and dated mostly in Southern California when we both attended school at Loma Linda University. Then, we moved back to our home state of Washington in 2018! We were together for about 6 years before we got married. We both love our families and spending time hanging out.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

Our wedding was very personal. Kind of modeled after Olivia’s personal style that was imbedded in to her being (haha) via her Mother, Delray! Lots of vintage, bohemian and colorful details. Think raw light wood tables built by the bride’s father, candelabras, melty colorful candles everywhere, lots of brass details, twinkly cafe lights, four large chandeliers hung in the center of the large room, a salsa table with homemade salsas that the guests brought, taco salad for the masses, a claw foot tub filled with ice and La Croix sparkling waters & frosty wine bottles, & banana cake for dessert! There was also a huge candy bowl by the vintage rug photo booth!

Flowers were mainly greenery and rich colored flowers including anemones, peonies and heart roses. Olivia’s bouquet was solely dark red peonies and all the flowers were done by her cousin Rhonda McKey and a family friend Kathy Fridlund who do florals for different events just for fun on the side…they are so talented! The bride picked out/thrifted all the vases. The bride’s mother, Delray, provided all of the silver candelabras, bowls and vases from her personal antique collection! Roughly 200 guests attended and all of them were from out of town! It was somewhat of a “destination” wedding since Yakima is so far out in the countryside of Washington.

The ceremony & reception were at the (Olivia’s parents’) Luce Family’s property in Yakima, WA that they call “Bluceskye Air Ranch”. Vintage junker cars line one end of the property, it is kind of a home base/destination for camp-outs at this point with lots of memories of family camping trips. The property is 18 acres with a landing strip for small planes!

The ceremony was aside a large airplane hangar that Olivia’s father, Rick, built HIMSELF with a few hired hands, he’s AMAZING! Totally solar powered, it has lots of raw wood and cement floors. You can see in photos, the ceremony was outside the large hangar doors, then cocktail hour with a drool-worthy charcuterie board made by Olivia’s cousin Tamera!  When it was time for the reception, at the end of cocktail hour, the doors were finally opened and the reception setting was revealed inside the hangar!! Romantic and intimate with everyone sitting inside on the homemade tables. Reception fun was inside the hangar and then dancing was outside on the cement slab where the altar had been during the ceremony.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Olivia wore a dreamy ivory crepe embroidered gown from BHLDN (Dreams of You gown) and ivory platform espadrilles by Soludos/Anthropologie. Also, her hat was a fun straw hat by the amazing Free People brand! Jacob wore a shark blue suit custom made by Indochino with custom embroidery inside the lapel saying “You’re My Home 5/11/19”, Olivia & Jacobs song is You’re My Home by BIlly Joel. Jacob’s shoes were by Cole Haan.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Our favorite part was our personally written vows we read and promised to one another! We hadn’t practiced reading them before the ceremony on purpose, so our words were a total surprise and we both cried when we heard the loving promises we had both written to each other. It was such a meaningful moment! Also, another high moment was when our cousins sang us a song by Chris Rice called “Let The Words Escape”, one of our favorite songs & then later at the reception, more cousins sang us “

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Try to relax and enjoy your day as much as possible! We did this as much as we could and the day still flew! Also, finish your food! We so wish we would’ve finished our amazing Mexican food at our wedding, it was SO delicious! We ate maybe half of our plates and then went out to say hi to guests and never returned!!! So much fun, though!

Write (with a pen, on paper/card stock) your own vows or at least a personally written card to one another on the wedding day to make it personal & an amazing memory of your unique promises and relationship.
