Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…
Abi and Josh were first introduced by Abi’s best friend. They hit it off right away, and Josh proposed to Abi while on holiday in Capri.
He had even organised both of their parents to be there, though Abi says “I may have stumbled on a few clues beforehand!” They were married in July during the European summer, and have since welcomed a new addition to their family, their son Harvey.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…
Says Abi on why they chose Capri for their big day: “My husband and I have built up a deep connection to Capri after traveling there a number of times. After getting engaged there, we thought it would also be the perfect place for the wedding as well! We had a mix of our closest friends and family in the wedding, but our wedding was quite intimate and everyone who was there is very important to us. We wanted our guests to experience some of our favourite spots in Capri. It was a three day event, so we had a beach day at Lido Del Faro on day one, followed by a dinner at Da Paolino Lemon Trees restaurant the following night. The wedding itself took place on the third night, and was held at the magnificent Michelin star Restaurant Il Riccio. They provided cuisine local to Capri and it was incredible. We didn’t have flowers, but opted for candles instead because of the difficulty bringing flowers to the island. We wanted to ensure the event itself was relaxed and fun for all those involved. It was important for us to compliment the beautiful surroundings of Capri, so we had a Melbourne-based wedding planner, but also a local one as well. In the lead up to the wedding, the most enjoyable part was definitely spending time with family and friends. I felt as though I was fairly relaxed during the whole process, both leading up to the wedding, and during it. I was very lucky to have an amazing support group around me, in particular my fabulous mother-in-law who did so much of the planning and organising.”
Tell us about your main outfits:
Bride: Roland Mouret dress and Delpozo shoes & Groom: Bruno Cucinelli shirt, Nudie pants, Tod’s shoes. Says Abi of her choice of hair, make up and dress: “I wanted to look like myself and asked for my make-up to be youthful and natural. I did a simple blow-dry for my hair, however with the heat it took on its own sentience! My dress was literally the first dress I tried on! The staff at Le Louvre in Melbourne were really helpful and knowledgeable!”
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?
With such a stunning location that already held so much meaning for Abi and Josh, there were so many memorable moments from their unique 3 day celebration. Abi says “It was such a whirlwind experience, but the best part was being able to call my husband “my husband” for the first time.” The pair then traveled to Barcelona and Majorca with friends just after the wedding, and then onto Monaco, Antibes and Paris on their own for their honeymoon.
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?
Abi: “I’ve got two pieces of advice. Firstly, get a mother-in-law who is amazing at organising parties and secondly, as my dad always says “it’s not about the day, it’s about the rest of your lives together”, so remember what is important, relax and enjoy the experience.”
The beautiful message that the photographer, Jeremy Blode, received from Abigail & Joshua’s family after the wedding:
“I have just received your photos of the welcome dinner and the wedding. I AM BLOWN AWAY. They are spectacular!!! Yes, the setting in Capri was amazing. Yes, everyone was really happy to be there celebrating with us and yes, the wedding was incredible but Jeremy, you have miraculously made our celebration come alive and enabled us to enjoy every moment for eternity. I know that’s what photographers do, however, you have gone beyond that and captured every moment – you’ve captured emotions, friendships, happiness and laughter and your eye for detail is truly amazing. Thank you to you and Rachel for your care and patience with us over both the dinner and the wedding celebrations. I don’t know when or who put your name forward as the photographer “we had to have”, but I am truly delighted that we made the decision to go with you. We have the most amazing memories that will be with us for a lifetime.”
