Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…
By day Amy is a dental hygienist and Kim is a woodworker, our side hustle is an online homeware store which keeps us busy when we’re at home and in our spare time we love an adventure, sometimes on our own but mostly with a big group of friends.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…
The farm was the perfect secluded location for our wedding, situated two miles down a windy narrow country road and overlooking the river Orwell. We had the ceremony in the empty barn which we dressed up ourselves and then the reception was in a marquee nearby.
We had a sperry marquee from the company Papakata, the sides are clear and can be easily rolled up and down, ensuring that either way the marquee was bright, light and beautiful. We used Papakata’s farmhouse-style tables and one of my bridesmaids owns a hire company so she kindly bought her ‘ghost’ chairs for us to use.
I’d seen pictures of beautiful silk runners on tables on Pinterest in natural pink colours and after lots of searching and trials I managed to create a colour I loved with avocado dye. I created the silk runners myself by ordering natural silk and then spent weeks collecting avocado pips and skins from everybody I knew and storing them in our freezer before boiling them to create the dye for the runners! It was quite a process but definitely worth it for the finished look.
My very kind parents collected vintage crystal glasses from local auctions for about a year and when I went to Morocco earlier in the year I hauled back over 100 moroccan tea glasses to use for tea lights.
Tell us about your main outfits:
I saw the Inca dress by Grace Loves Lace online before we got engaged and knew it would be the dress I would want to get married in one day. I’ve had so many complements on the style.
Kim loves tuxes and dressing up smart as he doesn’t get to do so day to day. We found his suit in suit supply on Saville Row and they tailored it for him. It was great seeing him look so confident on the day because he loved what he was wearing.
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?
When I think back I remember a lot of dancing, the band (which we found through a music manager friend last minute because we were let down by one we’d had booked for months) were absolutely fantastic and created such an amazing atmosphere.
We provided A LOT of alcohol. The aim was to get everyone drunk and ready to party, which it most certainly did. I remember people dancing around with hats from the GIF booth, it was magical . When the DJ turned the music off at 12 o’clock my dedicated bridesmaids decided that the party couldn’t end then so they got him drunk and he stayed playing until the early hours.
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?
Immediately after the wedding you’re going to be tired. Don’t book a road trip, have a lovely relaxing holiday together. There’s plenty of time for adventures later.
