Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship… I am a freelance art director who works in fashion and Rollo is a strategy consultant.

We are like chalk and cheese. Rollo is reserved and it takes time to get to know him and I am loud, friendly, and wear my heart on my sleeve. I am creative, Rollo is black and white. I am messy, Rollo is insanely tidy, and so it goes.

However with all our differences, we have learnt over the past seven years that actually we are very similar and where we are not we totally balance each other out.

We love Friday nights on the couch with take out, we love to travel and are often away for long weekends (mostly in Paris). We love music: Rollo has an eclectic collection of vinyl and I just listen and get exposed to new music genres.

What makes our relationship unique are our two very different backgrounds: South American (although I grew up in New Zealand I am very much South American) and Kiwi. We are forever learning about each other, even after seven years which keeps things interesting!

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details… We were both really relaxed about the whole thing. We both wanted it to be intimate and genuine with a simple elegance.

We had 50 guests, mainly immediate family and close friends. Our ceremony was at Birdwoods Gallery in Havelock North; a venue we had seen a year previous and we knew it was perfect for our ceremony! It couldn’t have been more beautiful in May with its autumnal colours and lush green surroundings, not to mention the presence of the white ducks!

We were very fortunate to have had the reception at Rollo’s dad’s house which is on the beach in Te Awanga. This really helped in making it feel intimate.

My favourite details of the day was the Cuban band. They absolutely made it for us–something unexpected for the guests but also perfectly reflective of us.

The food and flowers were also an utter highlight! Sam and his team at Orton Catering blew us away and Kim from Lushka just nailed the brief (and some!).

Tell us about your main outfits: We both knew that we wanted something different. I always knew I wanted something unconventional as I wasn’t into the idea of the symbolism of white and what it has meant for women in history (very deep I know!) But it also meant I wasn’t limited to one colour.

I went into the Stella McCartney boutique in Mayfair, London and knew this was my dress. It was the first dress I tried on, and I was on my own so I am very proud that I was that decisive!

Rollo was also very decisive and purchased his suit online and it was perfect.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day? When we arrived at Rollo’s dad’s house after the ceremony and we could finally celebrate with our amazing friends. The Cuban music was playing and the vibe was just amazing. We couldn’t stop smiling (well I couldn’t; Rollo doesn’t really smile, haha).

Speeches are always great but my sister did the most incredible speech leaving no dry eye in the room.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together? My very good friend got married six months before we did and gave me the best advice. Do what you want, someone will always have an opinion but you have to do what you want and not worry about other people.

With that in mind, we stuck to our guns and had the most wonderful day exactly as we wanted it.
