Samuel + Alysha by Fiona + Bobby

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We’ve been together for over six years are are still completely head over heels for each other. We met in Port Macquarie but now live in Sydney (which we love) with a year and a half stint in London in between. Samuel grew up in the UK and works in HR.

He loves to cook, can solve any problem and is also the most gorgeous human to ever exist. I grew up on the NSW mid north coast and work in Media. I love eating Samuel’s cooking, planning all our holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and of course our wedding too (I did planned our whole wedding myself) and I also love Green Day.

We just love spending time together at every possible minute, we love travelling, going out (and drinking delicious Stella and wine), binge watching Netflix (especially Seinfeld) and eating our favourite snack, Maccas cheeseburgers (which we of course had on our big day).

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

Oh man, it was the most beautiful day ever! We got married at The Stables of Somersby which is the most stunning venue, it has a big beautiful rustic barn, wisteria covered arbour walk and open grass fields for all types of lawn games and mingling. The moment we drove down the driveway we knew this would be the place we would get married. We chose The Stables because it is obviously amazing but it is also a DIY venue so we were able to plan everything (which we absolutely loved doing) and bring our dream to life.

We had so many favourite details but here are some of the extra special ones! I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so for our confetti, we cut loves hearts out from autumn leaves and made DIY cones from the pages of Harry Potter, (the four months it took us to cut each individual love heart was worth it).  Samuel did all the bouquets at our wedding (after a couple of YouTube tutorials) as well as all our table setting decorations and individually hand cut fabric napkins, and they were all absolutely beautiful! I had our beautiful pup Bonnie, who isn’t with us anymore, on a pendant on my bouquet so she was with us all day.

We had the best (no seriously, the best) bonbonieries, personalised tambourines that our guests shook as we walked back down the aisle and they were also an absolute hit on the dance floor! We had a custom made The Mayburys neon light, a roaming oyster shucker and magician during the lawn games. My dads beautiful speech was also a highlight for us and the non-stop dance floor from the first dance… I should stop now.

Tell us about your main outfits:

From the moment we got engaged, I always knew I wanted high neck dress. Once my bridesmaids and I began looking we learned very quickly high neck dresses were hard to come by. Some dresses had the top but not the bottom, some had the bottom but not the top and some were not even close! We had to think outside the box although we weren’t really sure where to begin haha. With time running out, my mum, sister and I went to a boutique in Newcastle where we found a beautiful strapless Stella York dress that was lacey up the top and had a gorgeous thick satin ballgown skirt. In comes Trudi from Just Perfect Alterations Newcastle, an amazing seamstress, who went with my vision and helped me create my dream dress. We were able to order additional lace from the top of my dress which allowed us to bring my dream dress to life. It had the perfect mix of modern and classic intertwined.

A bit like myself, Samuel always knew he wanted a Pollitix suit so that’s exactly what we got. He looked very dapper with a navy velvet suit jacket, high shine black shirt, velvet black bow tie, slim black dress pants all finished off with brass ‘A’ cuflinks, very very handsome.

We both wore Windsor Smith shoes!

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Our friends and family mean so much to us so it was important to have as many of them involved in our day as possible.
My very talented little sister did my make up, our good friend Nic married us, our best friends from England wrote and read their own poem for us during the ceremony, two of our closest friends signed our register, my Babushka held our rings and one of our best friends was our amazingly funny MC. Having so many people we love involved in our love was the key highlight for us.

Other memorable moments were the photos of both our parents and grandparents that adorned the beautiful arbour I walked down the aisle to, it was so special and emotional (my mum cried the first time she saw them) to see them watch over me as I walked to meet Samuel at the end. The ‘something blue’ bow my mum had on the inside of her dress was on mine and during our speech at the reception we all had a toast with a vodka shot in honour of my Russian heritage.

Best.Day.Ever.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Do it, it is the best thing you will ever do.

When it comes to the wedding itself, our advice to couples is the exact same: do it. Get what you want, only have people there that you want and do what you want; money will always come but this day is only once. If this is the sign you need to get that obnoxiously expensive or over the top extra thing (like a personalised neon light), do it.

This day is about you so make sure it is exactly that.
