Scott + Madeleine by Haley Guildford

The big day came that weekend – Scott had prepared a playlist of 10 of their favourite songs together.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Scott is a Senior Supervisor for a construction company. He’s a big mommy’s boy from a small town in New Zealand called Kaitaia, where he grew up playing basketball and rugby. He loves his sports teams, the Wests Tigers and LA Lakers. Madeleine is an HR Consultant who grew up in Sydney. She has a degree in Archeology and a massive love for history (just like her father) and hanging with her close friends over a spicy margarita.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met through Madeleine’s best friend, Stephanie. Our first date was at Cho Cho San, a restaurant in Potts Point, Sydney. Madeleine showed up late and only confirmed for drinks as she thought she was moving back to Manchester, UK as she was only back in Sydney for a holiday.

First impressions: Scott thought Madeleine was stunning but very intimidating; Madeleine thought Scott was shy but was interested in getting to know him better.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Scott realised after the third date that there was something special and he hoped Madeleine was going to stay in Sydney and not head back overseas.

For Madeleine, it was seeing how good he was with her niece Dion Harper and how family-orientated he was that she knew he would make a good husband and father.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Scott had been working closely with his friend Dane at Culet Jewellery for a few months, and ironically, the ring was ready to be picked up days before his and Madeleine’s second-year anniversary. Scott brought it home and decided to hide it under the bed, only telling Madeleine’s dog, Babushka, where it was.

The big day came that weekend – Scott had prepared a playlist of 10 of their favourite songs together. He picked up a bottle of their favourite champagne and asked Madeleine to take a seat before he got down on one knee. Babushka, being the protective of her mummy, took one nip at Scott before Madeleine said, “I Do!”.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Scott got a custom Italian-made suit. Madeleine’s veil as she wanted it to embody the Italian elements very similar to her grandmother’s.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

Our fireworks were delayed, and we cut our cake too early, but everyone was so eager to let loose on the dance floor that we didn’t care after a few too many limoncello shots.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Scott wore a ring his parents gave him for his 21st birthday, and it was the first ring his mother gave his father.

Madeleine went for a simple dress (which she had already picked out before they were even engaged) because she wanted a more intricate veil. She also wore her grandmother Caterina’s engagement ring, which was actually from Sicily, as both her grandparents grew up in Lipari and were engaged on the very same island that we were married on.
