Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship … Simon and I both locked eyes on each other in the corridor of an Emergency Department. As he strutted down towards me, hair so perfect, collar flipped up and hands in his pocket – he softly said ‘hey’ and kept on walking past.
Simon and I both locked eyes on each other in the corridor of an Emergency Department. As he strutted down towards me, hair so perfect, collar flipped up and hands in his pocket – he softly said ‘hey’ and kept on walking past. Both working as paramedics we knew straight away, we shared more together than the average couple. It didn’t take long for our friendship to blossom and become something so incredibly special. What we found in each other was magnetic. Careers alike our personalities are really different. Simon is the definition of cool calm & collected and has such gentle presence. Whilst I am soft hearted, I am very strong minded and determined independent woman! It works. Sime keeps me grounded and always keeps perspective and I encourage him to reach further and higher for things in life.
We love where we live by the beach and has been the perfect place to call home as we welcomed our little girl Saylor into the world just under two years ago. Becoming parents has been the most challenging yet rewarding time of our lives and has taken our love and support we have for each other to new heights. Nothing compares to the love we have for her. The bond is magic. We also love a good drop of coffee (always trust an ambo for the best coffee in town) and both share an appreciation and eye for designing our forever home. Getting married in front of our family and friends in March this year was like icing on a cake.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details …
Good food, good wine, good times + a fun party was the memo for our day. We were never ones to follow suit with tradition so we set out to choose the things that meant something to us. We didnt just want to roll through the motions because everyone cuts the wedding cake and marks it with a photo at 9pm. The first detail we made our own was our ceremony. We danced around not having a civil celebrant for months but knew we wanted our family and friends to witness our commitment so we asked my brother to welcome our guests and bring our worlds together to share our story on the grasslands above our adored local beach. We then found the perfect celebrant to marry us with the law abiding part. Signed, sealed delivered.. Im yours!! Sime is the man for DIY so we decided to make our own ceremony arbour. I found some inspo and he brought it to life. The welded concrete rio arbour was woven with an array of pampa grass, leaves from my late grandparent’s garden and natives to tie in the girls bouquets. We invited our guests to make their way over the bridge to our venue for a grazing feast & to dance the night away. With no wedding planner our vision for the day was to keep it simple. Made easy when your recpetion is Saltwater, Phillip Island – it’s a master piece on its own. Think – tall wide windows with a sleek industrial feel on the Newhaven jetty and stunning sunset views looking back over the iconic Phillip Island bridge.
Kristie from Overthetopevents scattered tiny tea lights, softened the room with native florals and sealed it with some beautiful frosted signage to guide our guests through the bar menu, our grazing feast table & love for polaroid pictures. The dream was kept alive as Kristie worked her magic to somehow transport the entire arbour across the bridge to our reception in the knick of time to join our custom neon sign which stood pretty as the centre piece for the fun night ahead. In case your wondering we didn’t cut a cake at 9pm, instead we spoilt our family and friends with an array of dessert canapés, iced donuts and an espresso martini hour. Yasss!
Tell us about your main outfits:
Our dress code for the day on our invites was ‘dress fabulously’ and so we did just that! I knew I was looking for something a little more modern and sleek. When i first layed eyes on the ‘Tigermoss’ gown by Rue De Seine Bridal i knew a visit to the Bridal Atelier – Melbourne was a must. Nothing compared to it – the sleek silk slip, fine sheer overlay with the most beautiful silver ball detail and wings as sleeves. It was meant to be. It wasn’t for everyone but I knew it was the one for me and that’s what matters the most. Sime was looking for something a little more relaxed, smart and left of field from the traditional wedding suit. He went for a white linen jacket and tailored chinos which complimented our sleek (yes I’ve used this word a lot) and timeless vibe for the day.
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?
Our first look on the stairs of a nearby secluded beach is something so vivid in my mind. It was such a long and windy walk down to simon. My dress got caught and then my veil stuck but I cherish every step down towards simon who was waiting there with the biggest smile from ear to ear. We are so glad we chose to see each other before the ceremony. It was our moment to soak it all up without the eyes or emotions of anyone else. I remember thinking finally after all those months of waiting and wishing – he finally gets to see all my dreams in a dress. With a body of water between our ceremony and reception it made sense to surprise our guests with an arrival by boat to our reception. It gave us the some time to relax, relish and soak up the lurrrrve and sneak a few more glasses of champagne in. As we cruised across we could see all our loved ones lined up on the jetty waiting to get the party started!!
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?
Keep it real with perspective, stay true to yourselves, grow together + always have a laugh with everything you do. If you’re planning a wedding invest in a good photographer, videographer & band – they are the elements that will make your day seamless.
