Steph & Luke by Blossom Daisy Creative

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

Luke and I live by the beach in Mount Martha which we both love spending time at with our dog Marlo. It was at the beach that Luke proposed to me actually, and we feel so lucky that we can walk by that spot every day and share that memory with anyone we want to.

We really enjoying eating and drinking, like anyone I suppose, but find we bond the best over cheese and wine. Luke runs his own plumbing business and I am in the wedding/events industry and own a planning and styling business, Staple Creative – which came in handy when it was time to plan our wedding. We are just about to hit 9 whole years of annoying each other, but with that comes 9 years of love and laughter and I wouldn’t want to do life with anyone else. We just get each other and feel blessed to have found one another.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We wanted a modern wedding, crisp, clean and fun of course. I am all for less is more Half Acre was the perfect venue for this. A grand, open space to fit all of my 160 guests in, modern finishes and great character. It felt relaxed and intimate. I always knew that florals would be a big part of my wedding, and really wanted to put effort into this element. Growing up in my Nan and Grandads garden, I wanted the florals to represent the garden I grew up daydreaming in. Kim, a long term Friend and floral genius of Badlands and Co nailed the brief and created a ‘wild, whimsical garden vibe’. One of my favourite details was the DJ booth! I had no words – it was epic!

Tell us about your main outfits:

My dress was from Suzanne Harward. From the moment I stepped foot in there I knew I was going to walk out with my dream dress. Myself, three Bridesmaids and Mum had a really special experience. It felt easy and effortless which I can thank Carly for as she made the time in the studio feel both relax and enjoyable. I wore Manning Cartell shoes which I had owned for a year already, they were and are still the comfiest pair of nude heals I have ever owned so it felt silly to purchase another pair that you wouldn’t see under my dress. Luke opt for hiring suits as being a tradie, he isn’t often wearing one, therefore found it easier to have the freedom in choosing what he wanted and being able to return it the next day. After going to a few different places around town, he ended up choosing to hire from Formal Red as the quality was a stand out as well as the service. He purchased his shoes from Aquila.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

There are a few that come to mind. Obviously getting ready with the Girls was a memorable moment. I even had my Mum and Grandparents there which was really special to me as they’ve been a big part of my life.
My Brother walked me down the aisle which was emotional and really lovely. We did a ‘first look’ prior to the ceremony. That was the best thing we could have done and It was such a fun part of our day. I would HIGHLY recommend for couples to do this! Cass our photographer made this really easy and fun. We have a tradition with our closest Friends, it’s called ‘The ring of fire’. We were able to do this after our first dance and all of our 160 guests joined in. That was definitely a highlight for not only us but everyone that attended. You basically gather in a circle and hand around a bottle of ‘Fireball’ Cinnamon whiskey, play Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash and finish the bottle before the song stops. It’s so fun, we do It at all of our gatherings no matter what they are.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Do what YOU want! There are so many people that will have opinions about your wedding and what you should do or what they did. At the end of the day, it’s all about your wedding and the two of you. Relax, enjoy the process and remember you’ll never do it again so make sure you make it your dream day! Get excited, It’s the best day of your life!
