Steph + Rosh by Sarah Godenzi

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

Rosh works in banking and technology; Steph works in health care and is currently studying a PhD. We love travelling the world together, learning new things, spending time with our closest friends and family, sunny days, eating out in Melbourne, going to cocktail bars, watching Netflix, and cuddling our cat, Rey.

We’re both driven to make a meaningful difference to the world in our personal and professional lives. We think our love is characterised by respect, kindness, teamwork, fun.

Steph says: I fell in love with Rosh’s happy disposition towards life and the tenderness with which he speaks his family. He makes me feel safe, supported, and loved unconditionally. Rosh says: I love Steph’s kind heart, intelligence, and organisational skills! I know I can share anything with her; she always has my back.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

Our wedding was a relaxed event; we would describe the style as boho / rustic. We chose an autumnal colour palate that was reflected in our attire and flowers. We wanted a non-traditional, warm, and intimate wedding that reflected who we are as a couple. We prepared shared vows because we feel we do our best work as a team and didn’t want to deliver lengthy, cheesy monologues.

Our ceremony was in the paddock at the Collingwood Children’s Farm: the space was open, set up on uncut grass, overlooking Merri Creek. Our 93 guests were predominantly standing; there was limited seating on bales of hay, under market umbrellas. We got married on a blue vintage rug under an arbour which was adorned with flowers and greenery by Little Lady Blooms – the arbour was probably our favourite styling piece from the day.

The reception was in the barn which was decorated with a series of installations made of greenery (also by Little Lady Blooms) which gave the barn a wild forest-like feel (this barn is used to milk the cow every day at 1600hrs: the transformation was incredible). We opted for long tables with gorgeous long linen table cloths in oatmeal. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, we chose to have a selection of vanilla, chocolate, and caramel cupcakes presented on natural wood stands interspersed with Babies Breath / Gyp – this was another favourite styling feature of the day – plus, they were delicious.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Rosh wore a blue Daniel Hechter suit with a burgundy tie and pocket square paired with a tan belt and shoes. Rosh: I was looking for something not overly formal, that made me feel great, and tied in with our theme.

Steph wore a bespoke two-piece dress made by D’Italia consisting of a French lace oversized top with bell sleeves and an ivory georgette high-waited skirt with a small sweep. Steph wore minimal jewellery consisting of diamond studs that belong to her Mum, a favourite gold bangle she’d had for many years, and gold filigree ring that she purchased on a recent trip to Sri Lanka.

Steph: I initially really struggled to find a style that reflected my own taste and made me feel comfortable. I wanted to wear a dress that made me feel like myself. I fell in love with the lace, the intricate floral details and its’ warm tone. I opted to wear simple ballet flats as I wanted to get around with comfort and ease on the day.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

Our ceremony was probably the most nerve-wracking part of the day, but it was also the most beautiful and memorable for us. We both won’t ever forget the rush of emotion we felt when we saw each other for the first time.

We loved having some brief alone time (with our amazing photographer, Sarah!) after our ceremony while we had our photos taken. It was a chance to catch our breath and have a much-needed cuddle.

We were so nervous about our first dance, but on the night, it was so much fun. It felt like no one was watching and we were dancing in our living room.

Finally, we loved dancing and letting our hair down with our guests and enjoying some beverages once the formalities were over.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

Weddings are a beautiful celebration, but they’re also just one day in your relationship. It goes so fast and nothing happens according to the schedule. There’s so much we can’t even remember from our day! Our best advice is to not aim for perfection and to try to enjoy and absorb every moment. Make sure you leave yourselves enough time to dance and have fun: you could easily spend the whole time circulating and talking. This is your day and you need to make sure you let yourselves enjoy it!
