Zoe, tell us about your beautiful new Zoe & Morgan store in Newmarket…

Our business has grown so much over the last few years, we needed to create a space to be able to connect with customers, in a very friendly manner. We wanted a little bit of privacy and a feeling of being at home.

When did you start thinking about a second New Zealand store and why did you choose Newmarket?

It was actually this time last year. We were packing website orders, packing wholesale orders, serving customers in the shop, and having meetings with bespoke commissions all at the same time. We were like the family who chooses to have more children with no spare bedrooms! We just had to expand. We fell in love with the bones of the building in Newmarket and could see a natural path forward.

We actually reached out to a couple of interior designers who’s work we really admire, but the time and budgets didn’t work so we did it ourselves. We designed the layout in our jewellery software that we draw up bespoke rings in. I’ll always remember 2018 as the fun year of creating a shop we absolutely love.

We chose natural materials for the fit out- recycled Rimu for the kitchen, a green marble from Guatemala, we commissioned a soft velvet sofa and had fun gathering material specimens to make a tactile mood board. It all came together with ease.

My husband made everything for the fit out – very handy being married to a cabinet maker, so it also strengthened our family, as we feel so proud of each other’s achievements.

I’ve always been a huge fan of furniture design. So I chose just a few pieces to buy and everything else we had made. I got our champagne trolley and room divider from Dante Goods and Bads http://www.dante.lu/ run by a cool German couple.

We had our sofa made in Bali by an Italian friend and shipped it into NZ

My children Ace and Mia helped me choose the colour for the walls.

And we used a shop called Katalog in Grey Lynn for all the hardware for our cabinets http://www.katalog.co.nz/ that Teia made.

How does the Newmarket store compare to your Cityworks store and your London store?

Our Newmarket shop is all about our connections with our customers. It feels relaxed and uplifting.

Our City Works Depot store is almost like a cool community within the building of all the folk who work there. It’s also our hub, we operate our website and wholesale side of the business there so the energy is very different. I love having the mix of the two and work in each location.

Our new Notting Hill shop opens today! Saturday 8th of December 2018. This is both our hub for the UK and Europe and our retail space. Ruth my sister has designed and pulled it all together with her little baby Imi following her every move!

A trip to London is on the cards, I can’t wait to see our new shop.Categories: Fashion, Inspiration-Zoe & Morgan - NewmarketCategories: Fashion, Inspiration-Zoe & Morgan - NewmarketCategories: Fashion, Inspiration-Zoe & Morgan - Newmarket

Now onto the jewels, what exciting things are you working on at the moment in the Zoe & Morgan jewellery ranges?

Morgan travels quite a lot, and he sends me rare and beautifully cut minerals and crystals, often unique cuts he has designed himself. So I have been making some one-of-a-kind rings, which brings me extreme joy! We are also quite busy working on our new season – which will be released in February 2019.

Have you noticed anything new or special in the fine jewellery area that customers are considering for weddings that you have not seen before / or for a while?

Yes coloured stones and ethically sourced materials which make complete sense! In general people are choosing what feels right for them personally and not tuning into what society or family may want for them. There’s a freedom and excitement around design choices, from the humble and personal to the adventurous and statement.

What are you enjoying working on most in the wedding collections? Any special things or particular stones, settings, materials or styles?

We are working on our own interpretation and reinvention of timeless yet simple styles. With a focus on beautiful quality combined with thoughtful design and material choices. We just finished making some new samples and we will release them early next year.Categories: Fashion, Inspiration-Zoe & Morgan - NewmarketCategories: Fashion, Inspiration-Zoe & Morgan - NewmarketCategories: Fashion, Inspiration-Zoe & Morgan - NewmarketCategories: Fashion, Inspiration-Zoe & Morgan - Newmarket

Any advice for people starting their search for the ring of their dreams?

Tune into yourself to decide what would suit your personal style and lifestyle. Finding something timeless to you alone, so that in the years to come you still feel excited every time you look at your ring finger.

What inspires or influences you most when creating new collections or one-off pieces?

The stones themselves are inspiring, the colours, raw materials, where and how they grow in nature, meeting people at a poignant chapter of their lives and sharing moments with them – we feel so honoured by the types of people who choose to work with us. Where do they all come from!
