Broghan + Tim by Keryn Sweeney

We wanted something that felt timeless and relaxed.

BROGHAN —— Tim and I met in 2018 when we were both living and working in Auckland. He works in revenue operations for a tech company, while I’m in operations as a senior analyst. Our weekdays are full-on, but outside of work, we love nothing more than the beach, traveling, and spending time with our golden retriever, Tilly.

We met on Bumble, where I must have won Tim over with a terrible opening line. After a week or so of chatting, we went on our first date at a little restaurant in Newmarket. I remember thinking he had the most beautiful grin and the kindest eyes. It’s impossible not to feel at ease around him. To this day, it’s still one of my favourite things about him. Tim says he thought I was stunning and lovely but assumed there was no way I’d want to see him again, especially after I left him sitting on the curb after dinner! But something must have worked, because here we are.

We got engaged on Labour weekend in 2022 during what I thought was a trip to celebrate Tim’s birthday with our closest friends. After a few afternoon drinks on a perfect Queenstown bluebird day, Tim surprised me with a proposal against the most stunning mountain backdrop. We celebrated that night with an incredible Mexican dinner, a few too many margaritas, and a vineyard day that followed.

For our wedding, we wanted something that felt timeless and relaxed, really showcasing the natural beauty of our venue. Goldie Estate was full of lush greenery, beautiful vines, and right by the beach, our happy place. We chose a colour palette that complemented the setting, with greens, browns, and whites, and a pop of pale yellow in the bridesmaids’ dresses as a nod to spring.

My gown was a bespoke Vinka Design piece, crafted with elements from several different styles I had tried on. Tim wore a custom-tailored suit from Rembrandt. We always knew we’d prioritise food and photography.

As food lovers, the menu selection process was hands-down our favourite part of planning. We also knew that we wanted Keryn Sweeney as our photographer — her ability to capture emotions and the essence of a moment is unmatched. Since we didn’t book a videographer, having someone who could truly document the day was so important to us.

Not everything went to plan. We had a running joke about our growing list of “mild inconveniences”. About eight months before the wedding, our original venue was sold, leaving us scrambling for a new one. But it turned out to be a blessing — we couldn’t imagine a more perfect place than Goldie Estate. Then there was the storm that rolled in over Labour weekend, right in between two days of perfect weather.

It forced us to shuffle things around, but thanks to our incredible vendors, everything was sorted seamlessly. Despite all the pivots and last-minute changes, our wedding turned out to be more perfect than we could have imagined.
