Gloria – Know Thyself

Know Thyself, a sensual suiting collection from Gloria that sees a Surrender to Beauty for Spring 2024.

Gloria, the New Zealand label by artist and designer Kristine Crabb, has introduced its Spring 2024 collection titled Know Thyself. This sensual suiting line invites wearers to surrender to beauty for the season. Based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, Gloria is known for its fluid, adaptable, and inclusive style. The brand merges modernity with a subtle, subversive twist that remains timeless.

Know Thyself is more than just a collection; it represents a state of mind. Inspired by the unstructured suits of the 1980s, this collection reinterprets traditional suiting with a relaxed and confident approach. The range includes classic pieces like the ultimate blazer and trouser set. It also introduces playful elements, such as a cinched halter waistcoat and a button-adorned miniskirt. Each piece reflects Gloria’s philosophy, combining self-awareness with the freedom to express individuality.

Kristine Crabb, Gloria’s Creative Director, views the collection as a refinement of her previous suiting work. She blends classic and contemporary elements with a subtle edge. “I wanted to make suits as an alternative to my fluid silk pieces. This new collection is a refinement of all the suiting we have done over the years. They are classic, contemporary—yet subtly subversive at the same time,” says Kristine.

Forever one unwilling to compromise on the details, Kristine has spent the last three years perfecting these final pieces. Having previously made custom suits for a spectrum of professionals, from film directors to high-ranking corporates, Kristine has pulled upon years of these personal references throughout the design journey.

The Know Thyself collection is designed for versatility. Each piece can be styled in various ways, making them suitable for both work and evening wear. For example, the Impeccable Miniskirt can be buttoned up or left open— anywhere on the body. This adaptability allows the wearer to adjust their look to fit any occasion. Each piece is designed for living fabulously well.

Furthermore, Kristine’s commitment to craftsmanship is evident in this collection. Each garment is crafted from designer deadstock pure wool and polyester, in a restrained color palette of grey, greige, ivory, red, and black. Every moment, from the fabric sourcing, to the handcrafted seams of each garment has been done with love in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Perfect for any occasion, these pieces also offer a stylish alternative to traditional wedding attire. Picture a bride in a tailored blazer and trouser set for a modern city wedding. Meanwhile, bridesmaids could choose the versatile halter waistcoat and miniskirt combination. Gloria’s collection provides an elegant and unique option for those seeking to break away from conventional wedding styles.

The Know Thyself collection will be available exclusively at Gloria’s flagship store on Ponsonby Road and online at gloria.nz starting Wednesday, September 18th.
