Chenay + Josh by Lea and Lens Photography

Our main vision for the wedding was an outdoor setting with cocktails in the sun, enjoying time with our closest people.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Chenay is a teacher, and Josh is an electrician. We both love being outdoors and at the beach. We are very family-oriented and spend most of our time with our family and friends, as well as our staffy Darcy, who was a special guest at the wedding.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met in 2018. Chenay’s first impression of Josh was that he was a gentleman, and Josh’s first impression of Chenay was that she was very nervous meeting him!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

For Chenay, it was after he had met my family and friends and showed that he loved my dog as much as I did! We clicked early on as we had the same hobbies and interests. For Josh, he realised after some weekends away together and when we went on our first holiday to Noosa together.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Yes, it was in Noosa, which is a special place for us. We have had lots of holidays there together surfing and spending time at the beach. Josh was very nervous about the proposal, though, so despite it being in a romantic place, he proposed at the door of the hotel room before we went out to breakfast.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding.

We wanted something that captured us and created a fun atmosphere. Our main vision for the wedding was an outdoor setting with cocktails in the sun, enjoying time with our closest people. Worrowing was the ideal location for this and the weather on the day was perfect. We also wanted a wedding where we could have the reception and ceremony all in one spot to maximise how much time we had to celebrate.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

A videographer was a big splurge for us, as was our amazing florist and stylist, who brought our vision to life. We do not regret getting a videographer; it has been so special to watch our day back. A planner was also something we didn’t know if we needed, but once we met our planner, Chelsea, we knew she was most definitely worth it. She helped the day run so perfectly, and we could not have done it without her!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

Our four-year-old nephew, who was our page boy, was so excited to walk down the aisle. He was practising in the lead-up to the wedding to make sure he got it right. On the day, he decided he would run down the aisle. He ran all the way, then tripped over right at the end on a cobblestone path. The rings went flying and had to be found by Josh’s Mum and our celebrant. We did get this captured by our videographer, which is a good memory we can show him at his 21st.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Josh wanted a plain black suit, so for him, it was quite easy (as it probably is for most grooms!). For myself, I went to about six wedding stores before I found my dress. It was nothing like I pictured myself wearing but once I put it on I instantly felt comfortable. The dress (two-piece set) was originally not a set that had been matched together. I started off with the top, and then the girls at Kyha Studios matched it together with the skirt for me. It was such a comfortable outfit that I loved wearing.
