Dan & Dani by Beck Rocchi

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship … Dan and I run an Interior Design and Residential Building Firm in Melbourne … prior to that, I worked in Finance and Dan was a Carpenter. We moved into what we do now after being contestants on The Block two series in a row.

Dan is also “Forman Dan” on The Block now and I co-host a home and lifestyle series called Healthy Homes. What’s unique about us… well, we’ve been together for almost 11 years and never really felt a strong urge to be married as were committed to each anyway. But we love a party and love each other, so thought, why not?! We absolutely love to travel… live for it actually. And our two pooches, Hazel & Olive. Dan and I met at a mutual friends birthday party in London almost 10 years ago. We were both living there at the time.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

I had desperately wanted to get married in Italy; however, it was proving a tough one cost wise for certain members of my family so we decided to get married on the Mornington Peninsula but bring a little Mediterranean into the day with our food, beverage and overall vibe. Music and “vibe” were a huge part of our day… Guests sipped on Aperol & Champagne listening to live jazz before the ceremony started. I walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Benny Benassi “Cinema” sung live by Sean Marchetti and we walked back down the aisle to “September” (also our wedding video song). Again, we listened to jazz, sipped Aperol Spritz and Mumm, and chowed down on oysters and prosciutto prior to our reception kicking off. Our crew walked into the marquee to “A little party never killed nobody” by Fergie… cause really, it didn’t 😉 and we had a live saxophonist at that time, so it was super fun and all of our guests were up dancing. We had a family share style dinner that was absolutely SUBLIME! We chose not to have a first dance; however, there were some solid old school RnB bangers going on that caused Dan to split his pants while attempting a booty drop of some sort.

Tell us about your main outfits:

I’ve been lucky enough to wear some amazing designers on the Logies red carpet so I knew the style of dress that would suit my body best and also had an idea on fabric. I also knew I wanted to wear a custom Cappellazzo Couture gown. There’s really nothing like wearing a dress that was made especially for you… it fit me like a glove! Booking my first appointment with Sonia was actually the first thing I did, even before we set a date haha. My girls wore Rebecca Valance gowns in a midnight navy hue. They were beautiful!

Dan was dressed by stylist Ramzy and wore a custom white jacket and black cropped pant by Joe Black… his troop also wore Joe Black. All in all, everyone looked amazeballs. Oh and my mum wore a beautiful navy crepe suit by Scanlan Theodore. Best on ground … besides myself of course haha.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Dancing until 3am and then drinking wine around the fire with my nearest and dearest until the sun came up. The whole day was superb, it’s hard to pick one moment. I think though walking down the aisle with my dad who was shaking with emotions, to my future husband who was crying like a grown man should on his wedding day haha. They were both actually sobbing, I was hysterical as I kept it together so well I actually surprised myself. I was practicing some major mindfulness so I was able to really take in the whole day. It worked as Dan hardly remembers the ceremony, yet I remember all of it, and I bloody love that.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. I hear some horror stories of couples who get caught up in relatively unimportant minor details and it makes me sad. Enjoy the day, breathe it in, and practice mindfulness so you can really appreciate each moment rather than mentally rushing ahead to the next. Also remember that it’s your day so don’t let anyone tell you what you should and shouldn’t do… even if they’re family. Oh, and don’t go broke trying to impress people (I hear it all too often) and only invite the people you really want to be there.
