Expert Advice – Brooke + Nicole of Hare & Hunter

The world that we are living in today is almost entirely different to that of two years ago and during that time, weddings and celebrations have adapted and evolved to suit, although not without it’s challenges. So we thought it was about time that we sat down with some of our leading wedding brands to get their perspectives as well as a few pieces of advice for couples currently planning their weddings.

We chat with Brooke and Nicole from Hare and Hunter to get their advice on booking your hairstyling during this time including a few simple questions to ask your hairstylist as well as their best home haircare tips to keep your locks looking soft and in good health during lockdown.

What is your number one piece of advice for couples in this climate when booking hairstyling?

These times can be a little unknown, before booking, make sure you know your stylist policy on covid. Questions you could ask… If I have to change my wedding date, can I transfer my deposit to a new date, and are there extra fees involved? If you’re not available on my new date or we have to cancel altogether, is my deposit redeemable in other services?

How are you handling COVID affected couples within your own business?

I am being super flexible with my couples, I know a lot of this is out of anyone’s control, and I do have quite a few couples who live abroad. If they have to move to a new date, even on a Sunday, I’ll do my best to make myself available, If I already have a wedding on, then obviously I can’t help out, but I’ll do my best to help find a new stylist. I don’t offer a refund on deposits, as I feel like this is a fee to secure your date. I’ve made myself unavailable to anyone else who wants to book me in on that date, and my fees arent just made up of me showing up on the day, It costs money to run a business, and a lot of time goes into admin. I do allow my brides to use the deposit for in salon services, redeem in products, or I’m more than happy to issue a voucher that they are welcome to onsell.

Thoughts on the future and how your business and sector may change or evolve?

People will always get married, and they will always need their hair done. So luckily, I don’t think too much will change in our sector, But I do see how a lot more couples are welcoming the thought of micro weddings. For us though, I do feel like we have a diversified business. While I’m out on the road doing weddings, my business partner Nicole is running the show in the salon for all of our regular clients.

What do you do personally to cope with the stress of COVID and Lockdown? Any rituals or actions that help get you through?

I am a super organised person and I love a list! At the start of lockdown I always make a list of what I want to achieve around the house, what I want to learn, and how we can better our business, and I just tick things off daily, I’m definitely an active relaxer. Each morning I try to sneak off for an hour walk before my husband heads off to work, and once I get the kids down for the night, I like to finish my day off with an online Wild Pilates session, a sneaky wine or two helps too!

Your best lockdown hair care tips/advice/suggestions?

We recommend doing a Plex treatment and a Hydrating mask. Our go to products are Wellaplex and Olaplex for the Plex treatments and Davines Oi Butter and Moroccan oil Restorative mask. The Plex treatments will help strengthen the hair internally and repair any damage that has occurred over time from applying heat and colour, as well as providing insurance for future colour appointments. The moisture treatment will help nourish, moisturize, and create softness for the external part of the hair shaft.
