Fashion Brides Rejoice

The search for a fashion-forward bridal gown has finally come to an end, thanks to LVR.

Historically, while there have been some truly exceptional traditional, couture, and modern classic options available in the New Zealand market, fashion-forward brides have often found themselves at a loss. We sat down with the two founders and best friends to find out a little more about what excites and drives them:

Jacque and Lauren; tell us a little more about your background.

Lauren’s experience with designing for renowned bridal labels and Jacque’s expertise in custom wedding gown pattern-making provided us with a unique advantage. We saw an opportunity to bring something fresh and innovative to the New Zealand bridal market. We wanted to create a space where brides could find fashion-forward, unique designs and experience trunk shows featuring designers who had never showcased their work in New Zealand. Our goal was to provide a blend of exclusivity and bespoke service that would set LVR Bridal apart.

What was your motivation to start LVR?

LVR was dreamt up in 2021 during the chaos of lockdown wedding planning. Unable to travel for dress fittings, I relied on my experience designing wedding dresses to create my own gown. As luck had it, Jacque had just returned from Australia, where she had specialised in crafting bespoke wedding dresses, so it seemed only natural for us to join forces and create the perfect dress together.

It was during these fittings the idea for LVR began to take shape. We recognised the need for a bridal boutique that prioritised bringing iconic designers to NZ and fostering a supportive community within the industry.

What is it that makes LVR truly unique from other players in the New Zealand market?

We genuinely believe that our strength really lies in our relationship to each other. We share a deep respect for each other’s work and an unwavering trust in our creative instincts. LVR thrives on the synergy between our styles, we balance each other out—similar enough to complement, yet different enough to keep each other on their toes.

Also at the forefront of our business is our commitment to preserving each bride’s individual style amidst the overwhelming ‘sea’ of wedding options. We understand the challenge of feeling lost in the noise of bridal fashion trends, so we make it our mission to spotlight each bride’s unique taste. We aim to craft and curate styles that resonate with each bride, ensuring she feels genuinely herself on her special day.

We’ve created a space where empowering and supporting each bride isn’t just a priority; it’s the heartbeat of our business.

What has been your most exciting LVR highlight to date?

We can’t pick just one! There were too many exciting moments, but some standouts include our collaboration with Wynn Hamlyn, our photoshoot with special friend and incredible photographer Emma Anderson, which beautifully captured the essence of our brand, and, of course, launching our own “Hand in Hand” collection, which was also a major milestone that we’re incredibly proud of.

What notable things are coming up for LVR?

We have some exciting events and expansions on the horizon. One of the highlights is the upcoming Christie Nicole Trunk Show, which we believe will be a huge hit, and we are so excited to bring these stunning designs to NZ for the first time.  We’re also expanding our “Hand in Hand” collection, offering even more unique and customisable options for our brides. Additionally, we’re thrilled to announce a pop-up event in Sydney this September, bringing our exclusive designs to a wider audience.

What trends are you noticing in bridal fashion currently, and what looks have you seen on celebrities or real brides that you have truly loved? (It could be recent or historic.)

Lauren: I’m always inspired by Chloe Sevigny. She’s truly iconic, never following trends but instead creating her unique style. I also love Rachael Rodgers’ wedding looks—they are stunning and full of personality. Both of these women embody the spirit of individualism and bold fashion choices that we celebrate at LVR.

Jacque: There are so many trends that I’m loving at the moment! The super girlie, fem vibes with delicate lace, old worldly silhouettes and small intimate ceremonies. I also love the 90s shapes coming through with heavy beading and embroidery detailing. We think it’s essential to look at fashion trends alongside bridal trends to keep current.

If you each had to pick two wedding day outfits (because we think every bride needs two outfits on their wedding day), what would they be, and why do you love them?

Lauren: Agreed! Always two outfits. I would choose the Riley Corset paired with the Patti Skirt and Zahra Cardi for the ceremony. This combination is simple, modern, and has a romantic flair. I’d definitely be stacking up the accessories for some added drama. For the reception, I’d switch to the Priscilla Mini, which is fun, flirty, and just perfect for dancing all night. And, of course, I’d pair it with some killer platforms.

Jacque: Ohhh, I would have to go with the Dhani Gown for the ceremony, as I love the romance of lace! It would be paired with over-the-top earrings and a super long plain tulle veil. I would change into our Wynn Hamlyn suit for the reception for an ultra-chic look.
