Lindis Lodge Under the Stars

The Lindis Lodge Brings Back Under the Stars for Winter 2026

This winter, The Lindis Lodge invites guests to look up, slow down and experience the extraordinary night skies of New Zealand’s remote Ahuriri Valley with the return of Under the Stars.

Running from 6 July to 31 August 2026, the seasonal programme celebrates one of the South Island’s most remarkable winter landscapes after dark. Bordering the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, the Ahuriri Valley offers some of the clearest and darkest skies in the Southern Hemisphere, making The Lindis an exceptional setting for a winter escape centred on stillness, landscape and the celestial world above.

Included within each stay is a rotating series of complimentary evening experiences. Guests can take part in Guided Stargazing, a 45-minute introduction to the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere led by expert guide Joseph Pooley, or enjoy Fireside Mulled Wine beside the outdoor firepit as the sun disappears behind the Southern Alps. Dining in the Dark also returns, offering a multi-course dinner served in the softly lit Great Hall and inspired by the night sky outside.

Guests can also experience private hot tub soaks beneath the stars, while those wanting to explore further may choose from a selection of private upgrade options. These include a two-hour private guided stargazing session using high-powered telescopes, a three-hour private astrophotography workshop capturing the Milky Way and distant galaxies, or a Twilight Champagne and Caviar experience at the lodge’s Black Diamond, a secluded architectural private dining space set within the high-country landscape.

“After the overwhelming response to Under the Stars last year, it felt natural to bring the experience back for our guests and evolve it further,” says Averil Patterson, Lodge Manager at The Lindis. “With the lodge bordering the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, the Ahuriri Valley has one of the clearest skies in the Southern Hemisphere, and Under the Stars is about embracing that wonder. This winter we’re inviting guests to experience that magic again, and in new ways.”

During the season, guests can also take advantage of The Lindis’ Stay 3 Nights, Pay 2 Nights winter offer, receiving a complimentary third night when booking two nights.

Located in the Ahuriri Valley, The Lindis Lodge is an architecturally designed luxury lodge offering a modern expression of high-country hospitality. With just five suites and three glass pods, the property combines contemporary design, seasonal New Zealand cuisine, genuine hospitality and exclusive high-country experiences.

Available from 6 July to 31 August 2026, Under the Stars offers a rare opportunity to experience the Southern Hemisphere’s winter sky from one of New Zealand’s most remote and refined destinations.

A little more about The Lindis

Set deep within New Zealand’s spectacular Ahuriri Valley, The Lindis Lodge is one of those rare destinations that feels entirely unlike anywhere else. Seamlessly blending world-class architecture, extraordinary natural beauty, and genuine high-country hospitality, it offers an experience that is both deeply luxurious and profoundly connected to the surrounding landscape.

Located on the vast Ben Avon Station and bordered by the 49,000-hectare Ahuriri Conservation Park, The Lindis is immersed in a wilderness of alpine mountains, tussock-covered valleys, wetlands, beech forests and winding river systems. Despite its remote setting, every detail has been carefully considered, creating a retreat that feels both adventurous and exceptionally refined.

Architecturally, The Lindis is remarkable. Designed to sit gently within the contours of the valley, the lodge’s sweeping timber roofline mirrors the surrounding landscape, while floor-to-ceiling glass draws the outdoors into every space. Interiors combine warm timber, natural stone and contemporary design to create an atmosphere that is sophisticated, calming and unmistakably New Zealand.

Accommodation includes expansive lodge suites alongside a collection of architecturally designed glass pods, each offering complete privacy and uninterrupted views across the dramatic high-country terrain. Waking to mist rolling across the valley, watching the stars emerge from a private hot tub or enjoying a quiet evening beside the fire are all part of the experience.

For couples, The Lindis is particularly special. Its combination of seclusion, design excellence and breathtaking scenery makes it an exceptional choice for luxury honeymoons, intimate elopements and highly considered micro weddings. The landscape itself becomes part of the celebration, requiring little embellishment beyond the extraordinary setting nature has already provided.

Whether fly fishing on the Ahuriri River, exploring the surrounding trails, enjoying a spa treatment or simply soaking in the stillness of the valley, every aspect of a stay encourages guests to slow down and connect with both place and each other.

For those seeking a destination that offers privacy, beauty and a true sense of escape, The Lindis Lodge stands among New Zealand’s most exceptional luxury experiences.
