Nam & Tiery by Jake Pears-Scown

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We met in a bar in Wellington 4 years ago. Despite being from such different backgrounds (Canada, Fiji) we have such an easy and fun relationship.

We’re still very different, but somehow our tastes, preferences, ideas, and sense of humour just click!

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

To be completely honest, Tiery didn’t want a wedding at all but ultimately we reached a compromise and decided to throw a wedding party! All we wanted was a fun night with friends and family filled with great food, drinks, and music. The Bresolin ticked all the boxes for us. The courtyard is intimate and beautiful with its fireplace and they have excellent food.

In terms of styling, we wanted something simple and elegant. Flower Manuela were amazing, we simply bought a bulk of flowers from them and Tiery’s mum and I did all the arrangements ourselves the night before – it was super fun! We also had the siblings put some fairly lights up at the Bresolin literally an hour before the party started!

Tell us about your main outfits:

Tiery wore a jacket he bought years ago. Nam bought a dress online from Reformation who do great affordable and sustainable bridal dresses.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

During our photoshoot before the party, we got caught in some classic Wellington wind and my hair and makeup needed some serious touching up. Luckily Jake (our photographer) was amazing and drove us back to the house where I got ready and my incredible girlfriends fixed me up just in time for the party. Overall, having our family from Canada and Fiji together in one place was probably one of the best feelings. We also had several impromptu speeches from friends and family during the party which were hilarious but also deeply touching.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Choose your battles and remember to keeps things in perspective. For example, Tiery and I had completely different opinions regarding weddings but ultimately what mattered most to us was that the other person was happy.
