Natalie + James by Lost in Love Photography

Natalie & James' Bridgerton-inspired wedding.

I really was attracted to using colour in a beautiful, soft way. My inspirations were Bridgerton and Marie Antoinette – soft yet bright pastels and lots of colour and shapes to play around with.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We are both lawyers who first met at uni and then re-connected years later when Nat joined the law firm James was working at. From then on it was history! We love the NRL, quiet nights in and spending time with our families before we welcome our own little baby in January 2023!

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We first met at university in around 2012 – both of us were in very different stages of our lives and it wasn’t love at first sight! When we re-connected in around 2019 it was much more instantaneous and we spent around 9 months talking every day before James finally made a move!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
For Nat, it was probably 6 months or so into re-connecting in 2019. For James, he always says it was one random morning during covid when we were eating bacon and egg rolls at Elizabeth Bay!

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Yes – we were staying at James’s parents place in Palm Beach for the weekend and James suggested we go for a sunrise walk to Barrenjoey lighthouse. While I am not a morning person at all I thought it was best to agree and then James proposed at the top at around 5am!

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
I really was attracted to using colour in a beautiful, soft way. My inspirations were Bridgerton and Marie Antoinette – soft yet bright pastels and lots of colour and shapes to play around with. We wanted it to be a little different to the standard all white weddings (although they are also so beautiful!) and lean into the colour aspect of it all.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
Styling! And it is to date the best decision we made. Having Poppy and the Honey Lane team sort out everything styling wise was an absolute godsend and there is NO way we would’ve been able to do all of that on our own!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
The weather was very up and down in the lead up and it poured all morning! Cleared up exactly when it needed to and we managed to have a nice dry afternoon for the wedding.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
My ceremony dress was custom Mariana Hardwick and I am still obsessed with it. It was the most amazing process to design it from scratch with the MH team and I only wish I could wear it again! I most loved the bow details on my shoulders – it was such a pretty and feminine detail that I just loved.
