We are bringing back an edit of our top-performing real weddings from the TJ archives. These are our very best weddings that our audience has loved the most, and the ones we think are still very relevant and aspirational.
Shayne—I’m an engineer and Francesca works in digital marketing. We spend most of our spare time in the water or at the beach. I’m a really keen surfer and Francesca loves the outdoors.
We met at a house party in Mallorca before falling in love, travelling through South America, and moving to New Zealand. I was born in Bermuda and lived in Ireland, London, Mallorca and Australia, which meant that moving halfway around the world for a girl wasn’t as daunting as it should have been! Sometimes it’s hard being so far away from family, but Francesca is always there to make me laugh. Francesca—I’ve always known where I stand with Shayne. He tells me he loves me every morning, noon and night. I don’t think you get that sort of honesty anymore.
Shayne has grounded me and made me a better person. He sees the best in everyone and helps me make better decisions just by having a big heart. I wouldn’t say that organising a wedding in Spain from New Zealand is the best idea, but it did turn out to be the best day! We were lucky with our wedding planner. The food, which we didn’t taste until the wedding night, was incredible, as were the fishbowl-sized gin and tonics. We wanted nature to be a big part of the wedding, and to celebrate the beauty of Mallorca. We had an early al fresco dinner and it was a fairytale, complete with fairy lights, embossed napkins and confetti cannons. It was like getting married on a Pinterest board. Our photographer was the winner on the day. He’d found a beautiful clearing in an olive orchard to take photos in, but it turned out to be the neighbour’s land. When an angry farmer came running towards us cursing in Spanish, and James tried unsuccessfully to calm him down, all I could think about was getting the priceless vintage MG wedding car out of there! The excitement of having friends from half-way around the world there for your wedding is indescribable. Being in the place we’d met so long ago, visiting favourite restaurants and beach bars with the people we love the most was just out of this world.
