Skye Carter Wedding Vanguard

Skye offers presence, care and connection

There is a quiet, unmistakable poetry running through the work of Skye Carter, a visual language shaped by intuition, trust and an acute sensitivity to human connection. Known for capturing magic, spontaneity, joy and raw emotion, Skye approaches each wedding not as a transaction, but as a shared experience, one built on genuine rapport long before the day itself arrives. By the time a couple steps into their celebration, they are relaxed, present and free to be entirely themselves, secure in the knowledge that Skye is always two steps ahead.

With a background in fine art and fashion photography, her work is as much about feeling as it is about form. Fabric in motion, light grazing skin, a fleeting glance caught mid-laughter, these details are observed with a fashion-trained eye and rendered with the softness and nostalgia of film. Natural light is central to her process, whether it appears as sun flare, backlighting or gentle shadows, each moment treated as something fleeting and precious.

Your work is described as capturing “magic, spontaneity, joy, and raw emotion.” How do you create that kind of atmosphere on a wedding day?

I really make the effort to get to know my couples before the big day. I keep communication open and end up chatting with them a lot about timelines and details—often helping with decisions along the way. By the time the wedding comes around, they’ve seen that I’m always two steps ahead, which means they trust me completely. That trust allows them to relax, be fully present, and enjoy their day knowing I’ve got everything covered.

I try my best to make sure we’re in friend zone rather than professional zone; who would let their guard down in front of a paid professional ? I want to feel like a friend so they don’t think twice when crying in front of me or being goofy in front of me. .

A wedding day is naturally full of magical, heartfelt, and spontaneous moments, so the key for me is to simply pay attention. I observe, tune in, and make sure I’m in the right spot with the right light when those beautiful moments unfold.

You have a background in fine art and fashion photography—how has that shaped your approach to shooting weddings?

Fashion photography is all about creating a vibe and evoking emotion. I’m always reading the room, absorbing the energy, and trying to shoot in a way that captures the feeling of the moment. I adore fashion, so I naturally focus on how fabric moves, how it catches the light, and all the little design details that make garments so special. The fine art part probably ties into the next question!

There’s a real poetic quality to your images. Can you tell us more about your process when it comes to composition, light, and detail?

Ahh, thank you! That’s the ultimate compliment—it’s genuinely one of my goals to bring a poetic quality to my work. I’m drawn to the nostalgia of film, to soft focus, motion blur, and creative abstraction. I love playing with angles, framing, and finding unexpected viewpoints. Natural light is everything to me—sun flares, backlighting, directional light… Every moment is a fleeting gift, and I try to capture it in a way that lets you relive it over and over again.

You mention that photographing a wedding is both a privilege and a lot of fun. How do you balance the emotional depth of the day with the energy and joy you bring to your work?

On the day itself, I give absolutely everything I have—energy, focus, love, and joy—to the couple, their families, their friends, and the vendors. Honestly, the next day I don’t feel very balanced at all—I have nothing left and go into hiding. No talking to anyone except my children!

You’re clearly inspired by nature, light, human connection, and culture—what else fuels your creativity, both in and out of photography?

Inspiration comes at me from all directions. I’ve always felt like a medium for creative ideas—it’s how I’m wired. I honestly can’t remember a day, even as a little girl, when I didn’t have a head full of ideas needing to be expressed. The harder part for me is actually channeling those ideas into finished things!

You describe yourself as nostalgic, thoughtful, and empathetic. How do those qualities translate into the way you tell a couple’s story?

I notice things—sentimental things, little moments that make a love story truly personal. I love capturing the meaningful details, the quirks, the tiny interactions. Observing personality traits or shared jokes and then catching them mid-laughter or in a knowing glance… that’s the magic I live for.

What’s your approach to helping people feel comfortable in front of the camera—especially those who might feel a little nervous or camera-shy?

Around 95% of couples tell me they’re camera-shy. But honestly, on the day, you’ll feel far less self-conscious than you expect. There’s just so much going on—you’re surrounded by people you love, you’re buzzing, you feel amazing… I’ve got your back until you’re in the groove 😉

If you could travel anywhere in the world to shoot a wedding in the next year, where would it be—and why?

For the past few years, Italy, France—anywhere in Europe—have been my go-to dream destinations. But lately, I’ve been feeling a strong pull to return to the States. I’m half American—my mum grew up in California, and I spent part of my childhood there and in New York. Right now, I’m feeling so excited to reconnect with my roots, see family, and revisit all the places that inspired me growing up.

For couples dreaming of wedding photos that feel soulful, spontaneous, and deeply personal—what would you say to them about working with you?

Please get in touch and let’s jump on a call! You deserve to feel 100% confident in every vendor you choose for your wedding. Loving someone’s photos is just the beginning—you also want to connect with them as a person. After all, your photographer is with you all day! Most couples tell me, after their wedding, that I was the best decision they made. I am moved to tears every time—it’s the biggest honour and makes every hour of editing that follows feel totally worth it. X

Skye’s images carry emotional depth without ever feeling heavy. She brings energy, warmth and joy to the day, giving everything she has to her couples and their people, while remaining deeply attuned to the quieter, more intimate moments unfolding around her. Nostalgic, thoughtful and empathetic by nature, she notices the things that matter most: shared jokes, subtle gestures, meaningful details that make a love story entirely its own.

For couples seeking wedding photographs that feel soulful, spontaneous and deeply personal, Skye offers more than beautiful images. She offers presence, care and connection, creating space for stories to unfold naturally, and preserving them in a way that can be felt again and again.
