We were together young, so definitely had our ups and downs at the beginning, but we always knew it was going to be a forever kind of thing.
I proposed at one of our favourite spots, Man O War at Waiheke, during a weekend’s sailing trip. We’d had a nice afternoon with a few wines and were heading back to the boat when I said I’d left my credit card at the bar.
It was quite a romantic meet-cute: having a group lunch on the steps under a bandstand of the local park on Charlie’s first day.
After a fun-filled eight months together, when Merusha left for London, she wrote me a letter expressing her hopes for the future together.
After that first date we both knew that we wanted to get to know each other more but we were surprised by how much our feelings grew for each other in such a short period of time!
All of these little moments compounded into something bigger, where I fell in love without even fully realizing it.

I love that in our relationship, we don’t hold each other to any expectations; we learn, grow, and meet each other at every phase of our lives.
It’s not about a specific moment; rather, it’s the accumulation of countless interactions and conversations that built the strong bond between us.
In the first three months of being together, we both jumped on a plane to go to the snow and by the next month, we were on a plane to Bali.
He became my biggest fan and I don’t think I had ever felt this accepted by anyone, even my quirks that drive him crazy at times.
