Baking is cool again, all thanks to Jordan Rondel. Since the tender age of 21, the New Zealander has been lovingly crafting the world’s most beautiful cakes – quickly earning herself the cult status of The Caker.

Rondel was introduced to the art of baking as a young girl visiting her grandparents in Paris. The sheer joy found in crafting something beautiful from a bunch of ingredients hasn’t left her since and now Rondel – who runs the business alongside her sister Anouk – is famed for her incredible recipe books, baking kits and made-to-order cakes.

Whether you’re celebrating a wedding, birthday or just the everyday moments – nothing says love like a big slab of cake. Just one quick scroll through The Caker’s Instagram page is enough to see why. Apple Blackberry Thyme Crumble, Chai Burnt Honey and Pear and Cherry Bourbon Burnt Butter all make a star appearance, each one more decadent than the last.

Each toppling masterpiece is crowned with something special whether that’s chopped pistachios, turkish delight or fresh flowers – earning extra heart-eye emojis around. Packed full of flavour, every bite is just as heavenly as the first with no food colouring or fondant in sight. Each clever recipe is crafted using ground almonds resulting in a wholesome, crumbly cake.

There’s a gorgeous array of cake kits on offer too from Coconut Raspberry Lime and Banana Cinnamon Crumble to Lemon Strawberry Poppy Seed. Some are gluten-free, some are vegan, all of them are delicious – whether you’re whipping up a lockdown birthday cake or a slice of something sweet for dessert.

Even as her business grows, something her grandparents taught Rondel when she first started out remains at the heart of everything she creates: cakes should always taste even better than they look.

Judging by the swirls of saccharine ganache and fresh blooms at the top of her creations, they must taste pretty darn good…
