Alice + William by Left for Paris

Our thoughts and ideas for the future always had each other in them.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

We are both very laid-back people who both grew up on the Central Coast just north of Sydney. We met here and then 4 years into our relationship we moved to Byron Bay together. Living in Byron for 10 years together was something we will cherish forever. It was such an amazing place to spend our 20’s. Meeting new people, watching endless live music gigs, eating incredible food, being in nature, surfing, and being the ultimate beach bums really sums up who we are and what we love doing. Most recently we have moved to Maclean near the coastal town of Yamba, NSW. I am a primary school teacher and Will is a builder. We have bought our first home two years ago and we are slowly fixing it up on weekends to create a family home. This is our newest hobby and interest.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met 14 years ago when I was 17 and Will was 19.. We were so young and completely unaware that we were meeting our forever person. I was on a family holiday at Treachery beach and I remember my family friend arriving with his mate (Will) who was there to surf. It was the peak of summer and I remember being introduced to this gorgeous, tanned surfer boy. The first time we properly spoke was by the beach bonfire and we spoke for hours. Will was such a gentleman and I remember thinking ‘this is the first guy I’ve felt completely comfortable with’. I was extremely attracted to him. For will, he remembers the girl in the orange polka dot bikini who stole his heart.

When did you first realise that this was someone, you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

We met so young so neither of us really thought too much about whether we would be together forever. We were just young and having so much fun together. We have grown up together and I guess there has never been a moment where we haven’t wanted to be together or doubted our journey together. For as long as we’ve been together, we have been in love and there has never been a moment to consider life without each other. Our thoughts and ideas for the future always had each other in them.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Will proposed on a little weekend away in Bellingen, NSW. On the first day, he took me for a swim in the beautiful creeks at a magical place called the promised land. After spending time swimming and basking in the sun at a private waterhole, he got down on one knee We then checked in to our Airbnb and spent the weekend in our little love bubble. Bellingen will always hold special meaning for us now. It will be a place we visit for anniversaries and special occasions. There is something really special about that area.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Photographer & videographer

I am someone who cries watching wedding videos of people I don’t even know, so getting a videographer was a must. Our photos were also incredible, and I highly recommend Left for Paris to capture all of the beautiful moments on your day. They offered a celebrant/ photography/videography package which made coordinating things much easier, plus they were so skilled and we are so in love with what they were doing.

Food

We had one of our close friends who is a chef cater for our wedding and we went all out. Oysters, grilled seafood, grazing boards, slow cooked meats etc. there was endless gourmet food.

Cocktails

We love our cocktails, so it made sense to have all of our favourites on our bar menu. We had a good variety to cater to all tastes, various margaritas, cosmos, elderflower spritz just to name a few. A great selection of wines was also essential. My dad knows a lot about wine, so he carefully wine paired for our entire menu. It was divine!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

I was very naïve as to the amount of organisation that was needed on the day. I woke up really early because I had a thousand things on my mind (and because I was excited). I put a face mask on and walked out to my now sister-in-law. She asked me what the run sheet was for the day, and I told her I didn’t have one. We had such a small wedding that I didn’t think we needed one. She straight away got up and started perfectly organising the order of events for the day down to the tiniest details that I had envisioned. She really made the day that we had planned come together seamlessly. But wow, what would I have done without her? I overestimated how much I would be able to do on the day while being the bride. Have a solid plan, girls! Or maybe just invest in a wedding planner.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story? The history of the ceremony dress…

No story, really, only that it was the one dress I fell in love with online, and when I tried it on for the first time, I knew it was the one. I felt so beautiful and surprisingly comfortable.
