An intimate Fijian escape.
Some places feel discovered rather than simply visited, where the world seems to soften the moment you arrive. Likuliku Lagoon Resort is one of them, a quiet sanctuary set within Fiji’s turquoise horizon where time slows and calm takes hold.
An adults-only retreat, the resort is the first and only in Fiji to offer authentic overwater bures, poised above a natural lagoon protected by a thriving marine sanctuary. We arrived by Island Hoppers helicopter, which felt like the most extraordinary way to experience the island for the first time. From the air, the landscape revealed its full beauty, the sweeping curve of the bay, the vivid blues of the lagoon and the perfect geometry of the overwater villas all coming into view. It is a breathtaking introduction that heightens your appreciation of just how special Likuliku’s setting truly is.

From the water, the resort appears almost like an ancient coastal village, shaped by steep thatched roofs and structures that honour centuries of Fijian design. At its centre is an extraordinary building inspired by the traditional canoe house, its soaring ceilings and hand-woven finishes setting the tone for a stay that balances authenticity with refined, contemporary ease. Natural textures, timber, thatch and stone sit comfortably alongside modern comforts, creating spaces that feel both characterful and serene.
What truly defines Likuliku, however, is its spirit. The resort is enriched by the generosity and warmth that Fiji is known for, yet here it is felt even more deeply, woven into every interaction and every moment. This is a place for travellers who value beauty shaped by culture, for honeymooners seeking intimacy and wonder, and for anyone who believes that travel should connect, uplift and linger long after the journey home.

Cuisine
Dining at Likuliku is shaped by place, season and the gentle rhythm of island life. With two restaurants and relaxed poolside offerings, the culinary journey feels effortlessly generous, guided by a strong sense of local identity and refined international influence.
Executive Chef Gregory Llewellyn brings a fresh, creative sensibility to the kitchen, celebrating the finest Fijian produce alongside exceptional ingredients sourced from further afield. Local seafood, tropical fruits and a remarkable array of herbs, greens and vegetables from the resort’s thriving kitchen garden take centre stage, offering a true garden-to-plate experience while honouring Likuliku’s commitment to sustainability. The result is provenance-driven dining that feels both luxurious and grounded.
The signature restaurant, Fijiana, offers al fresco meals with sweeping lagoon views, an idyllic setting for long, leisurely dining. Plates are clean, flavour-led and rooted in South Pacific influences, reflecting the diversity of cultures that shape the region.
For a more intimate and elevated evening, Saluwaki introduces an inspired small plate Asian style concept. As dusk settles, the restaurant reveals a curated menu crafted with precision and playful exploration, perfectly in tune with the Likuliku way of life and one of the most exceptional dining experiences we had in Fiji.
Daytime dining at the poolside terrace is relaxed and sun-drenched, offering wood-fired pizzas, generous burgers and vibrant salad bowls made with ingredients harvested just metres away. Even casual meals feel deeply connected to the landscape.
At Likuliku, food is more than sustenance. It is an invitation to slow down, savour and experience the island through its flavours, stories and seasonal abundance.

Connection and Calm
The island’s villas offer exceptional privacy, and it is entirely possible to spend a whole day in your ocean bure or relaxing in your garden with its plunge pool. It is an idyllic choice for honeymooners who prefer seclusion. When the mood shifts and you feel like being social, it is a joy to wander along the overwater boardwalk to Masima Island Bar for pre-dinner drinks, watching the torches being lit as the sun sinks across the horizon. These evenings bring together guests from across the world, united in the easy, glowing magic of island sunsets.
Sustainability
Likuliku Lagoon Resort operates within one of the world’s most pristine yet fragile ecosystems, and its dedication to sustainable tourism is evident in everything it does. During our stay, the team spoke often and with genuine pride about their environmental and community initiatives, taking us to see firsthand the projects that protect both land and sea.
As a proudly Fijian-owned family business, they honour deep ties to local landowners through meaningful employment, education funds and long-term partnerships grounded in respect. Their commitment to cultural integrity, environmental guardianship and community uplift is not merely policy but a philosophy lived daily and shared openly with every guest.
We loved spending time with the sustainability team, visiting the iguana sanctuary and resort gardens, and learning about their forthcoming on-site glass-bottled water initiative. They also walked us through their coral regeneration work and the many community projects they support, from building bridges to help children reach school more safely to assisting nearby villages in ongoing, thoughtful ways.

Adventure
For travellers with a sense of adventure, Likuliku offers more than serene relaxation and world-class dining. One of our highlights was a sunrise trip to Mociu Private Island, affectionately known as Honeymoon Island. At 5 am, we boarded a small boat in the dark, reaching the island in time to hike to the summit before first light. The walk is short yet steep, manageable for most, and the reward is extraordinary. Watching the sun rise over the mainland from a secluded vantage point feels almost otherworldly. Afterwards, you have the island to yourself, complete with a gourmet continental breakfast and excellent coffee on the beach. It is a magical experience for honeymooners, romantics or anyone dreaming of an unforgettable proposal setting.
Another deeply memorable experience was visiting the local village, a short twenty-minute boat ride from the resort. Stepping ashore felt like travelling back in time, offering a rare glimpse into the daily life of the Fijian community who call this island home. Their customs, communal way of living and the gentle rhythm of village life were moving to witness. We loved meeting the children, learning how the village operates and browsing the handcrafted pieces made by local artisans. The visit added richness and cultural depth to our stay.
Conclusion
Likuliku Lagoon Resort is one of those rare places that stays with you long after you leave. It is authentic yet indulgent, intimate yet expansive, luxurious yet deeply connected to culture and community. For honeymooners, eloping couples or anyone seeking a romantic escape shaped by beauty, meaning and effortless serenity, it is nothing short of exceptional. A stay here feels like entering a world designed for love, connection and pure, thoughtful luxury.
