Noy Eliyahu – À Fleur de Peau at NYBFW

Noy Eliyahu Explores Transparency, Texture and Modern Femininity

For her latest collection, À Fleur de Peau, Noy Eliyahu explores this delicate balance through intricate lace, considered transparency and silhouettes that move between softness and structure. Presented during New York Bridal Fashion Week, the collection draws on the quiet romance of old Paris, but its interpretation of femininity feels distinctly contemporary.

References to another era emerge through delicate French lace, faded florals and the suggestion of soft, diffused light. Rather than recreating a particular period, Eliyahu borrows its atmosphere, allowing vintage influences to inform the collection without defining it. The result is a wardrobe that feels nostalgic in its details yet assuredly modern in its proportions and construction.

Lace plays a particularly important role, not simply as decoration but as a means of shaping the relationship between fabric and body. Its intricate patterns and sheer qualities introduce a beautiful sense of lightness, revealing the silhouette beneath without overwhelming it. There is a sensuality to this transparency, balanced by the precision of sculpted corsetry and carefully considered lines. The contrast gives the more delicate gowns a quiet confidence, demonstrating how revealing fabrics can feel refined without losing their expressive quality.

The collection also explores a more substantial approach to volume. Heavier silk gowns introduce soft, generous draping, with pleating and bows bringing dimension and a sense of movement to the silhouettes. These elements offer an interesting counterpoint to the delicacy of the lace designs. Where one feels almost weightless, the other celebrates the presence and structure of fabric. Together, they create a varied yet cohesive interpretation of feminine dressing.

Styling adds another layer to the collection’s vintage sensibility. Veils remain a significant feature, particularly the mantilla styles, whose lace-edged silhouettes frame the face and extend the decorative language of the gowns. Their traditional associations feel especially relevant alongside Eliyahu’s contemporary approach to proportion, demonstrating how familiar bridal elements can take on a different character through thoughtful styling.

There is also room for a change of mood. A short, intricately beaded dress introduces a playful alternative to the longer silhouettes, particularly appealing as a reception look. Its inclusion reflects the increasingly fluid approach to wedding wardrobes, where ceremony and celebration can invite different expressions of personal style.

What makes À Fleur de Peau interesting is the way these contrasting ideas coexist. Transparency and structure, vintage references and contemporary shapes, delicacy and volume all contribute to a collection that resists a single definition of femininity. Eliyahu’s strongest proposition is perhaps that romance need not be fragile or restrained. Here, it has presence, individuality and a distinctly fashionable point of view.
