Alex + Alex by Navala Studio

The palette was always going to be pinks and whites.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met through a mutual friend, and we had all studied at the same university but met a few years after graduating. AK was on holiday with the mutual friend, Georgia & AD sent Georgia an Insta message about us having the same name. This led to an Insta follow request, a date in London (where we both lived), and we’ve been together ever since. My first impression of AD was that he had amazing hair, was very outgoing, would chat to anyone, which I loved and could also drink a crazy amount of tequila shots. My first impression of AK: hot, engaging, fun, compassionate, empathetic. Good vibes and good chat.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood and style of your wedding. (theme, key styling elements, florals, colour palettes etc.).

Given we’re both from the UK, we were set on an outdoor wedding, with access to a beach as well. The vision was an intimate dinner party with friends. The palette was always going to be pinks and whites. I wanted to keep everything as timeless as possible and less trend-driven, so I didn’t look back and wish I’d done something differently. I wanted lots of candles and festoon lights, so it felt romantic as well.

What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee, etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue).

Having a venue that did the talking made a huge difference in helping us keep budget-friendly. We had different areas for each part of the day, but none of them needed much decorating as the venue was picture-perfect. The outdoor dinner under the festoon lighting was so perfect to me.

What did you enjoy most about the planning process, and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?

I loved using vision boards from Pinterest, Instagram and TikTok. I loved having an evening a week where I’d show Al some options of things like our photographer options, and he’d choose within 5 minutes. It made booking everything very efficient. I loved wedding dress shoppin,g of course, having the bridesmaids with me was such a special day.

My tips would be to have a tracker of everyone you’ve messaged and add the quotes & any helpful info. Don’t ask too many people’s advice/opinions, just trust your gut instinct.

Tell us about your vendors.

Were there any standout suppliers you would like to make special mention of? Navala Studios – Jam & Dan were exceptional. They fit into the wedding party. They captured every moment, and they stayed an extra hour after a minor catering mishap. Our celebrant, Michelle, was also amazing; she let us make the ceremony totally our own. Our DJ was also a friend of mine who made the whole playlist bespoke to us, which meant we never left the dance floor.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, and is there a story?

Neither of us really had a clear view on what we wanted to wear for the wedding. I love Kyha dresses, so I wanted to replicate them on a budget. I knew I didn’t want a veil, but wanted a scarf detail. It was the second wedding shop I went to, I was there with the bridesmaids, and we were torn between two. I FaceTimed my mum and auntie, who actually chose the other dress, but after sleeping on it, I went with the one I felt was more me. AD was conflicted between a three-piece cream suit and his baby blue one. We both agreed that the baby blue was very unique. It also really suited all the groomsmen. They had baby pink shirts, and Al had a white shirt with a pink tie to have something different.

Tell us about your wedding and engagement rings.

With a little bit of inspiration from the better Alex, who had dropped a few hints about her preferences. I actually went into the jeweller for a ring viewing with some ideas, looked at a few options and decided there and then. Very decisive, which isn’t usually one of my strong points. Also, the day he went and picked up the ring, he cycled home with it in his bag; his bike tyre got caught in a drain and he came off the bike. He got home with blood pouring from his leg and had to get stitches. I had no idea the ring was in his backpack that he took with him to the hospital.

What were one or two elements that were most important to you both that you were happy to spend a little more on? (food, photography, florals, the venue, your outfits?).

Photography – we wanted to have the most beautiful photos as they last a lifetime. We absolutely got that and more with a stunning video capturing the day, too. Food – we wanted a sharing style meal, but it was also the restaurant we went to straight after we viewed the wedding venue, so it felt very sentimental to us.

Was there a favourite moment (or two) that you will treasure always?

Our vows, it was so quiet & you could really feel the love and emotion. There’s something so strange but in the best way about standing up and declaring your love in front of everyone. Our outside dinner and the speeches were also a special moment; you could feel how excited everyone was for the evening.
