Amy + Fraser by Katelyn Rose

The aesthetic for the wedding was “80s disco in a fairy cave.”

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

As a couple, we love to travel, cuisine, and Alabama football. We recently started watching seasons of Big Brother from the 2000s and are obsessed! We’re also dabbling in salsa lessons, but it isn’t going very well since Fraser barely knows his right foot from his left!

Amy works in advertising as a senior account manager.

Fraser works in insurance sales as a regional manager.

Amy loves houseplants and enjoys long walks around the lakes in Orlando and cycling. She’s usually listening to an audiobook or true crime podcast.

Fraser has been practising Brazilian jiu-jitsu since 2020. He is a blue belt and placed first in his most recent tournament. He also enjoys drone videography and has captured scenic views while on travels with Amy in Montana, Mexico, Bali, the Bahamas, and more.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met as sophomores at The University of Alabama on Amy’s birthday! After college, we moved to different states and went our separate ways but reconnected when we ran into each other at an away Alabama football game in Atlanta. Thanks to Alabama football for making our relationship possible!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

When we reconnected after college, Fraser knew immediately that we would get married. Amy came to the same conclusion a few weeks later, and then we moved in together about four months after that.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Fraser proposed at The Belleview Inn (wedding location) in December 2019. The couple stayed at the hotel when visiting family in the area for Christmas, so it was a total surprise when Fraser proposed by the fireplace (Amy thought he’d propose on the beach). A piano player was onsite and played the couple’s favourite song until Amy came down the stairs (Desperado by the Eagles—the Eagles was the first concert that the couple went to together in 2013).

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding.

The aesthetic for the wedding was “80s disco in a fairy cave.” No, I’m not kidding. From the very beginning, we were adamant about disco balls, a band that would get guests of all ages on their feet and a magical warm glow created by twinkle lights and candles.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

We attempted to identify three elements as budget priorities for the wedding. Unfortunately, the bride, groom and families all had completely different priorities, and the only item that came in under budget was the cake for the cutting, as it was small and from the Publix grocery store.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

When planning the wedding, it was important to us not to get married on the same day as an Alabama football game. Unfortunately, we got the dates mixed up and planned our wedding on the same day as the SEC championship, and Alabama played Georgia in a huge rivalry meetup. Luckily, halftime ended up being during the ceremony (and Alabama was in the lead), and everyone was able to watch the second half during the cocktail hour and dinner. Thank god Alabama won! It ended up being a blast cheering on the Tide with our guests, chanting the fight song when we won, and dancing to Sweet Home Alabama at the beginning of the reception.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Fraser wanted to dress exactly like James Bond, but Amy wouldn’t let him. To make it up to him, she surprised him with a red carnation boutonniere for the reception, a little James Bond flair.
