The vision we had in mind for out wedding was loosely “summer garden party.”
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We are both designers living in San Francisco. We love anything art-related: music, design, fine art, architecture, florals, fragrances, etc. We spend most of our time creating together – Dapo has a brand Venture, @vtr.world, that makes candles but also hosts events around the city to bring people together where I’ll help plan, host and do the florals. Or we will hang out with our friends, go to museums, enjoy the park and beach, or cook meals together for a dinner party. We love to host, and we try to bring that into everything we do, including our wedding.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We first met in January 2022 at a mutual friend’s birthday party! She was having a little day hang at a brewery, and we got to talking. We ended up ditching the party to go on our first date and have been inseparable ever since.
Annalise – my first impression of Dapo was that he was passionate about his work and seemed very genuine. I really liked (and still love) how excited he got when talking about his art and interests and how much we had in common, and could geek out together on design things together.
Dapo – my first impression of Annalise was her smile. I saw her smile across the party, which lit up her whole face. I had to go over and say hello
When did you first realize that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
For both of us, it was our first trip together! Early on in our relationship, we went to Joshua Tree for a long weekend and had the most amazing Yme. We started the weekend off with a road trip and had 3 days of hiking, exploring, and cooking together, and before the last day, we both just knew that this was it. We became best friends who could talk about anything and everything, encouraged and cheered each other on, and being together made everything so much more fun.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Dapo planned the most romantic and thoughtful proposal! He told me that we were going to an on-site weekend with his work (not uncommon in his job) and that we were going to go up a little bit early to settle in. He took me to the Madrona Hotel in Healdsburg, where we had a lovely breakfast and then went on a walk through the gardens on the property. He proposed in the gardens amongst all the fall blooms, and then we spent the weekend soaking in our engaged bliss with wine tasting, delicious restaurants, and a spa day.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding.
The vision we had in mind for out wedding was loosely “summer garden party.” Colourful pastels, florals, and lots of greenery. We wanted our wedding to feel authentically like us: playful, elevated, warm, and a way to celebrate our cultures and bring all of our closest friends and family together
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
Photography! We knew we would be looking back at our photos for the rest of our lives, so we needed photos that would look how the day felt. Our photographer, Shelly, was phenomenal!
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
We forgot to get the marriage license at home… oops! One of our uncles ran back to get it for us, so it wasn’t stressful or a big deal, but definitely not something we thought we would forget
Tell us about your main oukits, what was unique, is there a story?
Our secondary outfits were unique and so very special. Oladapo is Nigerian, and his mom got us traditional Aso Ebi handmade for us in Nigeria. During the reception, we (our wedding party included) did an outfit change into our Nigerian outfits and danced the night away in our custom outfits.
