Big Hill Luxury Retreat - Together Journal

Soft blues, greens and neutrals which pulled together a romantic and organic design.

Set to the backdrop of dramatic views of Banks Peninsula Coastline, Raupo Bay, The Pacific Ocean all the way out to the Kaikoura Mountains. Big Hill is a bespoke luxury rural escape nestled within 18 hectares of Native New Zealand Bushland surrounded by stunning ocean views.

The styling was inspired by the insane location views. Soft blues, greens and neutrals which pulled together a romantic and organic design.

The soft blue of the ocean and the organic greens and creams of the long grass were what inspired our table design. The table had french linen tablecloths in Oatmeal and napkins in beige stripe and milk with a luxe muslin table runner. We used natural elements for styling, like pearls, limes, grapes and handmade ribbons, along with tall candlesticks, ribbed glassware and copper cutlery. The florals were soft, timeless and simple. Saskia added touches of pale blues and greens to tie in the colour theme.

Sarah Stoute Bespoke designed a gorgeous bespoke gown and veil for the shoot. We wanted the dress to be simple and classy. She used a silky material that flowed beautifully in the gentle wind on location. The veil was inspired by the bows and ribbons on the tabletop. She stitched gorgeous pale blue bows to the bottom of the veil to bring a fun editorial twist to the simple design.

Portfolio Jewellery also designed the jewellery specifically for the shoot. Hannah was inspired by Ridgecliff’s ocean views and designed a collection of jewellery using sea pearls and soft blue beading, which looked gorgeous against our models’ pale skin and rich red hair.

Grace had her hair in a slick low bun, which brought focus to all of the fun accessories, such as the oversized blue bow, editorial veil and bespoke jewellery. We kept the makeup simple and natural to keep on theme.
