Black Finch Jewellery redefines the custom ring experience in Melbourne.
A creative partnership rooted in craft
In the heart of Collingwood, Melbourne, Black Finch offers a jewellery experience defined by artistry, care and considered design. Their Smith Street studio is more than a place to view fine jewellery. It is where personal stories take shape through precious materials and meticulous craft.
Founded in 2007 by Master Jeweller Raymond De Zwart and Creative Director Davina Adamson, Black Finch has grown from a quiet workshop in Westgarth into a respected design-led brand. Since 2020, the team has expanded significantly, now comprising eleven creatives working closely together under one roof.

Design-led, experience-driven
Raymond, whose qualifications span Fine Art Gold and Silversmithing, Gemmology, Stone Setting and Product Design, leads the design and production team with an exceptional level of technical skill. Davina brings a distinctive creative vision, informed by years immersed in Melbourne’s artistic landscape. Together, they have shaped a brand that speaks confidently to those who value design, quality and meaning.

The custom ring experience at Black Finch is highly collaborative. Clients are guided through the design process with care, selecting from a wide collection of ethically sourced sapphires, conflict-free natural diamonds and recycled refined gold. Each ring is designed around the individual, blending technical mastery with artistic expression.

A singular aesthetic
The Black Finch aesthetic blends classical references with bold colour combinations and an appreciation for asymmetry. There is a clear departure from the conventional, shaped by Davina’s background in the arts and her instinctive resistance to repetition. Designs are never replicas; instead, each piece reflects the one-of-a-kind pairing of concept and material. Much of this uniqueness stems from their in-house collection of natural stones, personally sourced by the team. These gems serve as the foundation for combinations that feel unexpected yet deeply harmonious.

Jewellery with intention
Black Finch’s values are rooted in sustainability and meaning. The brand favours timeless design over trend, and each piece is crafted with the belief that jewellery should honour milestones, transformation and love. There is a quiet confidence to their work, a feeling that nothing is rushed or borrowed.
For design-conscious couples seeking something beyond tradition, Black Finch offers a rare opportunity. Here, the custom ring is not simply a product, but the result of a shared process that honours both the personal and the poetic.

A new era for old treasures
At Black Finch, storytelling is at the heart of every piece, and lately, that story often begins long before a client steps into the studio. With a noticeable rise in couples bringing in heirloom gold and gemstones, the team is embracing a beautiful new chapter in jewellery design: breathing new life into sentimental pieces through thoughtful redesign.
From reimagining vintage engagement rings to incorporating a grandmother’s treasured stones, there’s something profoundly meaningful about transforming old-world jewels into contemporary, wearable art. It’s a process rooted in memory, but shaped by modern design and craftsmanship.
With the soaring cost of gold, many younger couples are also becoming more resourceful, opting to repurpose inherited materials as a sustainable way to create their dream ring. It’s a choice that feels both mindful and utterly unique.

The heirloom redesign and gold swap program
As part of their commitment to sustainability and circular design, Black Finch has introduced an heirloom redesign service and gold swap program, an inspired way to reimagine pre-loved pieces while honouring their past.
Whether it’s broken chains, outdated styles, or jewellery tied to complex memories, these materials can be turned into something entirely new. Clients can bring in their old gold, which is carefully documented, weighed, acid-tested, and assessed based on the current market rate. Once the quote is approved, the value is offered as BF credit, which can be used however one chooses.
“Gold is eternal. Let’s transform yours.“
