Botswana on horseback

Marta is a show jumper & Alvaro is a polo player, both from Spain. They decided to do something unique and chose a horse riding experience at Macatoo.

What inspired you to choose a horseback honeymoon in Botswana?

We wanted our honeymoon to be about horses. We met on horses. He proposed while on horses. We also wanted our honeymoon to be in Africa.

Can you describe the most romantic moment you experienced during your horseback adventure?

Nap time after lunch, before riding in the afternoon, while seeing elephants from our tent was pretty romantic. Our last dinner alone in the tent was also very romantic.

How did you find the accommodation and overall hospitality in Botswana?

Spectacular on all levels.

What were the highlights of your horseback safari, and which animals did you encounter?

The people we encountered there were definitely a highlight, both other guests and workers. Further to that, we encountered all sorts of animals in huge quantities; it was like being again in Adam and Eve’s paradise. Hippos are huge. Much larger than what we expected.

What tips do you have for other couples considering a horseback honeymoon in Botswana?

Do it, assume the risk, enjoy it as much as you can, and love the adventure. Do not do it if you cannot ride well.

Were there any unique or unexpected experiences that made your trip special?

Hearing the lions every night was definitely unexpected. The first night was a little bit spooky. But you get used to it.

How did this adventure compare to your initial expectations, and would you recommend it to other honeymooners?

It exceeded our expectations in all ways, and we definitely recommend it. There is always a sense of adventure, risk, and wildness, incardinated in incredibly beautiful landscapes, sharing all of this with spectacular animals, everything while on horses! Sharing all of that with the person you love is the best.
