Cam + Emily by Holly Burgess

After just a week of hanging out together and cruising around California, I was definitely falling in love.

Flying back to Auckland, I realised I would be a very lucky man to spend the rest of my days with Emily.

Emily ——I’m a model and Pilates teacher, now living in Mount Maunganui, where I can be found attempting to surf.

Cam ——We’ve recently moved back to my hometown after spending the previous decade in Emily’s hometown of Auckland. I’m a director and photographer, working across fashion and lifestyle mostly. We’re both summer lovers and we’re never too far from the beach.

Emily ——We apparently met on a photoshoot in Auckland 10 years ago, although I don’t actually remember Cam from that day. I was too young and nervous about the shoot. We re-met on another shoot in 2017 and it was love at first sight! There’s no other way to describe it.

Cam ——This time, she seemed to remember me and I knew I was in trouble. I was done for.

Emily ——I moved to L.A. three days after that shoot. Cam came for a holiday a month later. After he left, I realised that I didn’t really want to be doing life without him. Home I went!

Emily ——I always, always wanted to get married at our family bach. Cam and I have had many good summers there and I love the idea of our kids being able to hang out where Mum and Dad got married.

Cam ——After visiting a few venues, we realised we had what we wanted in our own backyard. Emily’s mum’s bach allowed us to bring our own vision and vibe to our big day. We wanted to blend a relaxed atmosphere with a little bit of sophistication. Not in a ‘board shorts and blazer’ way, but more of a sunset resort aesthetic.

Emily ——We splurged on the photographer and the booze. Holly is amazing at her craft and a good friend of ours.

Cam ——She creates such lovely work. We had some really nice natural wines, good beer, plenty of Pals and a questionable DIY frozen margarita that started the party for some and ended it for others. Wouldn’t change a thing.

Emily ——My dress was designed by our good friend, the ridiculously talented Lulu Jackson. I think she made me 3-4 dresses before we decided on the final one. I knew I wanted it to be silky and slinky and a little bit classic with some edge. My grandma had six bridesmaids in all the colours of the rainbow, so having my four bridesmaids in different colours felt like a nice way to remember her.

Cam ——One of my talents is leaving things to the last minute. My suit was one of these things. Wynn was super kind and managed to fit myself and my groomsmen fairly late in the lead up. He even came to the Mount to do a fitting! What a true legend, thanks Wynn.
