Chloe + Alex by Mikayla Herrick

I wanted our wedding to echo the natural beauty of the venue, channelling an upscale garden party vibe.

Chloe —— I’m a director of marketing and Alex is a consultant for big tech companies. We met while attending Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. We were introduced by mutual friends and soon learned we were in the same art class. Alex was the class clown. He always made me smile and I was immediately captivated by his charisma, confidence and intelligence.

Alex —— It’s hard to think of a time I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life with Chloe. We’ve been together almost 10 years and she was, and continues to be, hilarious and caring. For some reason, chose me out of all the other goofballs out there! My proposal turned out to be a beautiful train wreck. I’d planned to pop the question on Valentine’s Day in a charming Bavarian-themed town in eastern Washington state. However, the state had just experienced the most snowfall in a decade. We barely made it there, having begged my father to let us borrow his truck because our car wouldn’t have made it. The snowy setting ended up being super romantic and our closest friends celebrated with us.

Chloe —— Four words summed up my wedding day vision: romantic, whimsical, timeless and chic. I wanted our wedding to echo the natural beauty of the venue, channelling an upscale garden party vibe. I created our own stationery, signage and wedding logo. A unique aspect of our ceremony was having both bridal parties on either side of us arranged in a boy-girl-boy-girl formation.

Our guests mentioned that this was something they’d never seen before. Instead of confining ourselves to a single colour, we embraced the idea of incorporating an array of pastel colours into our floral arrangements. In a world where conventional white and green colour palettes dominate, we envisioned our celebration as a vibrant burst of colour. This decision not only added beauty to our celebration but also contributed to a more relaxed and enjoyable wedding experience. My veil was truly the pièce de résistance of my bridal ensemble. Opting for a dress that exuded timeless elegance and simplicity, I wanted a touch of drama that made a lasting impression. The veil featured a two-tiered design with hand-sewn ruffle edging in a cathedral length.

Alex —— I wanted to pay homage to my Hawaiian heritage, even though our wedding was in the Pacific Northwest, where incorporating traditional Hawaiian elements might seem out of place. To subtly celebrate my heritage, I collaborated with Indochino, the tuxedo designer, to incorporate a tasteful Hawaiian print on the interior of my jacket. In the photos, there are subtle moments where this unique pattern emerges, contributing a personal and meaningful touch to our special day.
