Claudia + Nathan by Light and Type

We are both a couple of homebodies who enjoy drinking coffee on the couch while watching movies.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

I’m (Claudia) a beauty therapist; I love being a wife to Nathan and a soon-to-be mother (we were two weeks pregnant at our wedding but didn’t know we were due with a little boy in Oct); Nathan is a fitter and turner, he trains Brazilian jiujitsu and MMA 5 nights a week and loves our cat, Fergie. We love spending time with each other, and we are both a couple of homebodies who enjoy drinking coffee on the couch while watching movies.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Nathan and I have been together for seven years and met on Facebook; for our very first date, Nathan took me to Cold Rock Icecreamery where I thought I would impress him by getting a mango sorbet with strawberries (I don’t like strawberries), all for him to get bubblegum ice cream loaded with gummy bears. Nathan wasn’t the usual guy I would go for. I had a lot of walls up and low self-esteem, but that never pushed him away, and he really stuck by my side. Our second date was at a Thai restaurant where he bought a bottle of wine (I was 19 at the time and didn’t drink wine and thought he was so fancy, lol); after the date, he walked me to the door, and that’s when we had our first kiss.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

I was studying my beauty therapy course up in Melbourne five days a week. Mind you, we lived 2 hours away from the city, and Nathan would drive halfway to pick me up from a train station, so I didn’t have to catch the train all the way home by myself. He was working all day and also doing night study but would still be waiting for me with a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Nathan proposed to me on a Saturday night in the comfort of our own bed. We were looking for something to watch on Netflix, and that’s when I said, “What do you want to watch?” to which he replied, “Marry me?” I replied, “That sounds boring”…. Nathan then said again “, Marry me?” which was when I turned to face him, and he had a box with a ring. It was that simple but the most amazing proposal ever. It was easy, kind of like our love.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

My dress!! My gown is the most amazing gown I have ever laid eyes on; I had been to 3 bridal shops before I found this one; my mum actually picked it out, and it’s funny because I never remember her actually grabbing it; she just begged me to try it on for fun! The dress was way over budget, and my mum and I knew that but wanted to try it anyway; as soon as I walked out in the dress and saw myself, I just cried; I had never felt more me. Sadly, I didn’t buy it the first time I tried as it was out of budget again. I was heartbroken for months, and nothing was compared. I finally bit the bullet and went back up to Melbourne and put the deposit down! I’ve never regretted my choice!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

I caught two of my bridal party gals, my sister and my cousin, up at 2:30 a.m. the morning of the wedding drinking because they were nervous!! I put my mother’s hen boots on and sent them to bed. I couldn’t believe that they were the nervous ones, lol. I love them.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

The ruffles on my dress and the colour were probably the most unique! All my girlfriends described me as very ‘vogue,’ which I loved. Also, my pink shoes were only $20!!
