Cloe + Nicholas by Stone & Wool

Nicholas & Cloe

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Cloe: Nick is a carpenter by trade and owns his own business while I work at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Administration. Apart from holidaying, shopping, being with our two British Bulldogs Wally & Fizz, drinking wine and margaritas with friends or nights in just the two of us listening to Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance, our favourite thing to do together is renovating.

We have our own property which we purchased four years ago. We pretty much ripped the whole inside out and renovated it before we moved in. We recently did up our bathroom thanks to our wedding being pushed back because of Covid, this was the only room we didn’t touch with our initial move in renovations, and after all of the wedding stress, we have now decided to add on some extras onto the house (deck, carport etc).

Nick is dealing with the building side of things while I love doing all the décor and styling. We hope to flip properties in the future, this is the one ‘work’ activity that excites us and really gets our creative juices flowing.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met in August 2010 on a camping trip with a big group of friends but never spoke until December 2010, when Nick gatecrashed my 18th birthday party with a mutual friend that was invited. As soon as Nick arrived at the party I went straight up to our mutual friend and asked if he could please set us up, which turned out to be the reason Nick turned up.

At my birthday party, we shared a kiss and exchanged numbers then have been together pretty much every day since. First impressions for me were that Nick was stunning and reminded me of Ryan Sheckler the skateboarder. His first impressions of me were that I was wild and cute.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

We both were asked this by our videographer and agreed that we never came to a sudden realisation “this this is the one”. Our relationship just organically flowed throughout the years. However, when we look back and reflect on nearly 11 years ago, we both agree we just always knew that this was our lives. We are always going to be together.”

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

I had just been swimming in my in-law’s pool, had chlorine hair and had just scrubbed off all my fake tan when Nick insisted we go take our dog Wally for a walk. I wasn’t keen as it was summer and so hot, but we went anyway. I remember getting out of the car and Nick told me how cute I looked. Then we started walking and a few minutes in he suggested that we sit down on the bench and give Wally a rest.

We sat down and I could see him fiddling and he kept clearing his throat like he was about to cry. That’s when my stomach dropped and I knew what was about to happen. He got on one knee and proposed. I was in shock! On the whole drive home, I was calling all my friends and family. Later, he told me to pack a bag as he had planned a night away in the city with a hotel room and fancy dinner.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

I really wanted a whimsical relaxed vibe but my styling wasn’t exactly what I had planned due to us rescheduling because of Covid. We had to choose our stylist very last minute so a lot of what I wanted couldn’t be sourced in time. However, they did an amazing job and made it all tie in with my flowers which I was already set on. The request for my flowers was that the guests would have greenery falling off the edges of their tables and that the bridal table would look like a meadow of wild flowers. Our florist did an amazing job capturing exactly what we wanted and we had so many compliments on the day.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

The bar tab, music and outfits.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

The rescheduling of our original wedding date because of Covid was a lot to deal with; however all our vendors were so accommodating and we trusted everything would work out how it was meant to. Looking back, we are so happy our November wedding was moved to March as it was such a nice time of year to get married and gave us longer to prepare.

On the day, the bridal party didn’t have any issues but the best man left his shirt in Brisbane, we were in New South Wales). Thankfully, my maid of honour’s husband drove all the way back to get it. Also, one of the groomsmen didn’t try on his suit before the wedding and had put on some weight since getting measured and his trousers were so tight, he couldn’t do them up properly and had to do the old hair tie around the button trick.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

I had a really specific idea of what I wanted for the boys’ suits so I took the groomsmen on a shopping day in the city. We looked in one shop then decided to go to the pub for just one drink… About six drinks later, we called the shopping trip off. Luckily, a few beers deep the best man remembered a friend of his works at Suit Society so gave him a call and organised a private suit fitting at his home a few weeks later. I guess the shopping trip wasn’t a waste after all.

I decided to do a girl’s trip to Melbourne with my mum, bridal party, mother and sister in law to look for dresses. They had so many beautiful stores and dresses. The last dress I tried on was exactly what I had inspiration photographs of on my Pinterest board and loved it straight away. Luckily for me, they had a store that sold my dress in Queensland so I was able to go home and drive to the Sunshine coast to try it on again, the next day I purchased it.
