Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do, what makes Emily Rose Photography special?
I’m an English girl that fell in love with a Kiwi boy. While currently living in beautiful Bath in the UK, we also spend a number of months every year back in NZ, giving me the ability to cover weddings on both sides of the world. I’d like to think that the most prominent thing about my work is capturing honest memories for couples to reflect back on for the rest of their lives. While I also love to focus on details, light and getting creative with an editorial twist, I mostly find it important to capture as much emotion as possible, filled with those intimate moments throughout the day in a very real way.
How did you get started in the wedding industry?
I actually had just left college at the age of 19 and I wanted to study fashion photography, but my college photography tutor called me up and asked if I wanted to photograph someone’s wedding at student rates… at first I don’t think I was very keen as I’d never been to a wedding let alone photographed one, but he twisted my arm, I went along and I was hooked!
What is your number one recommendation for couples/brides who are choosing a photographer?
I think connection is key. Your photographer is probably the supplier you’ll spend most of your time with on the day, so it’s incredibly important that you get on and feel comfortable with them. I always book in a minimum of 1-2 video calls before the wedding to have a chat, along with lots of messaging between to create a relationship so I’m not a stranger turning up on the day, as well as getting a feel for who the couple are as a pair and what kind of love language they have.
What inspires you?
Many many things… landscapes & architecture, light, music, movies and of course other gorgeous weddings!
Any exciting plans for the future that you would like to share?
A move to Aus/NZ is very much on the horizon which is very exciting!
