Emma + Tom by Stacey Mclean

We just got each other; we connected effortlessly, and it felt like we were meant to be.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Originally from Adelaide, Tom and I have moved around a bit, living in Melbourne and now Sydney. Tom works in energy, and I work in transformation. We love the simple things like chilling at the beach and keeping active. When we thought about what a wedding truly meant for us, we decided to elope in Adelaide with our closest family members. We wanted a small, intimate celebration where our grandparents could be a part of our special day. We organised everything within 12 weeks, and it turned out to be the most special and wholesome day. We decided to do things non-traditionally, and Tom and I spent the night before the wedding together, which meant we got to spend the morning getting ready together. It was so fun and relaxed.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions? When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

We met at work in Adelaide when we were 22. We didn’t think much of it then, but later, we crossed paths again in Melbourne and hit it off. From our first date, we have been together ever since. We just got each other; we connected effortlessly, and it felt like we were meant to be.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Tom booked us a weekend away for my 30th Birthday at Port Campbell in Victoria. We stopped at a couple of beaches along the way as Tom was trying to find a ‘good walking spot’ for us to go the next morning. The next day, we drove to the beach to go for a walk, and as we were taking some photos of the view, Tom dropped down to one knee on the sand and proposed. It was perfect. I was so surprised that the first words out of my mouth were, “Are you serious?!” followed by a Yes!

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

We were happy to splurge on our rings, knowing they’d be cherished symbols of our love and pieces that we would wear for the rest of our lives.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

On our wedding day, Tom’s pre-booked Uber didn’t show up, so my dad had to step in and drive him to the ceremony. Looking back, it’s a funny memory despite the stress at the time.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Tom wanted a classic suit, so he had his suit custom-made to fit him perfectly! I was so unsure about what I was looking for! After trying a few traditional wedding dresses on, I soon realised that I wanted to wear something that was truly me. I found my dress online two months before the wedding day, and as soon as I tried it on, I knew it was the one. I felt like me.
