Eve + Matthew by Amour Weddings

Matthew’s proposal was in the Canary Islands on the sand dunes, which was a complete surprise to Eve.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Eve hails from Ireland and currently works in digital marketing, and Matthew is from New Zealand, working in Marketing and Communications recruitment, where we are based in London. We have joint passions for travel, food, music and a good night out!

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We were neighbours, Eve on the first floor and Matthew on the second floor. The first time Matthew saw Eve was a building evacuation due to a house fire in the area. After that, Eve hosted a party, which Matthew went to in an inebriated state… so first impressions could only be improved. After five or so months of Matthew pestering Eve for a drink, she finally caved, and he got his chance! The rest is history!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

I think we both agree that being confined to each other’s company throughout COVID-19 had a big impact. We had lived together for a year prior to COVID-19, but living together during that period was definitely when we went from strength to strength and adored each other’s company.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Matthew’s proposal was in the Canary Islands on the sand dunes, which was a complete surprise to Eve. Matthew also had a speech lined up, which completely escaped his mind as he got down on one knee. Eve said yes, and we cracked open a bottle of Champagne on the sand dunes.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Eve’s outfits (of course). On the whole, we felt like we budgeted well but when we got closer to the day, any potential issues or unexpected things it was definitely more throwing money at any problems to ease the stress!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

I think the way that everything ran so smoothly. Besides our amazing photographers and the venue… we learned that the Sicilian way was extremely relaxed. There were no contracts for buses, catering, flowers, music, or a DJ – everything was arranged via WhatsApp. However, everyone turned up on the day and massively exceeded our expectations! Also, Mount Etna blew up two days before our wedding, meaning flight delays and cancellations were rather stressful – all but one couple managed to make the ceremony!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story? The history of the ceremony dress…

Eve struggled to find something she loved and decided to get crafty by taking elements from several dresses to make her own design, which came together amazingly. Still having to iron on diamantes up to a few hours before the ceremony!
