Georgina + Joel by Estrada Weddings

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

Joel and I met at a mutual friend’s party 7 years ago. After that we kept bumping into each other at different events and the rest was history! Joel is a builder and I work in Marketing.

We live on a beautiful west coast beach 40 minutes’ drive out of Auckland. We are both easy going and love to spend time with family and friends and our two dogs Hunter and Blue. We work well together as we both don’t take life too seriously, we are a team and love to enjoy life together.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

We got married at Black Walnut Venue, 20 minutes outside of Tauranga. We struggled to find a local venue that suited the style we wanted for our special day. As soon as we came across Black Walnut we were sold, it was exactly what we were looking for and more! Majority of our family and friends are based in Auckland, so it was also a nice opportunity for everyone to get away for the weekend.

We are both pretty relaxed people and wanted the day to reflect that, as well as revolving around good food, music and thoughtful details that guests would remember. We had a beautiful champagne tower, oyster bar and cheese tower available for guests after the ceremony. For dinner we opted for a family style menu, as we liked the relaxed and social vibe this creates.

We wanted our florals to be one of the main focal points of the day, while still being classic and timeless. We chose tones of white, ecru, champagne, blush and peach. We wanted to make a statement while still being elegant and refined. My bouquet was a dream, with gorgeous blush tinted orchids in a cloud of babies breath and hydrangeas. I’m so happy I ended up getting the bouquet pressed and framed after the wedding so it’s something I can keep forever.

Tell us about your main outfits:

I love the look of non-traditional wedding dress. I purchased both of my dresses online as I wanted them to reflect my own personal style. My first dress was from Zimmermann. I paired it with bow heels from Loeffler Randall and Natasha Schweitzer pearl hoop earrings. I purchased my veil from Grace Loves Lace on a girl’s trip to New York, which was such a special experience! My second dress was a collaboration that Rasario did with My Theresa. I paired it with Nakedvice heels and a pearl choker from Enesea. I also wore pearl stud earrings which were my “something borrowed” from my Mum.

The groomsmen suits and shoes were from Barkers. We chose a beautiful light grey jacket to compliment the bridesmaids’ dresses and went for a casual look with no tie. The bridesmaid dresses were from Stone Cold Fox. I absolutely loved the fabric the first time I saw it and wanted something that the girls would wear again.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

The most memorable moment was when one of our family members performed a Haka. It was such a special, powerful moment and something we will always remember and hold very close to our heart. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room!

We decided last minute on the night to have our first dance underneath the tunnel of fairy lights. This was such a beautiful and romantic spot and we are so happy we ended up doing this!

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

Planning a wedding during a pandemic is tough, especially when you have to postpone or change your original plans. Just remember everything will work out in the end, and try not to get caught up on the little things. The most important thing is that you are marrying your best friend.
