Harry + Kirstie by Ash Muir Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

We are fun-loving beach addicts who enjoy the simple things in life. We both work in the construction industry – Kirstie being a designer and Harry a builder. We’ve been together for six years and connected at cooks beach which made our wedding location even more special.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

We winged a lot of our day. Fun, bright and boho were the key elements we kept front of mind when making decisions. I knew I didn’t want the norm and found a vintage couch on trade me that formed the pallets of our theme; rust, mustard and teal colours were featured throughout.

We chose to opt from any florals at our ceremony and let the location speak for itself having the cliffs as our backdrop. Our favourite features were; the flags that bordered the aisle, our bouquets where every bridesmaid had their own flower and I had one of each flower from theirs. Cath from Aster and Bloom did an absolutely amazing job of our floral archway and was a huge focal point for our dinner reception area.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Originally I always wanted a minimalist classic dress and it was the first thing I bought 2 years prior to our wedding date. I never got sick of it but knew it needed something else to reflect a bit more of my personality. I found the Gown + Altar top online and bought it on a whim 4 weeks before our day, and it was perfect!

We choose colours for both the bridesmaids and groomsmen that matched the natural beach setting using natural fibres. The colours all blended in well together and complimented our florals.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

My Dad was hilarious as we started walking down the aisle. He started getting teary and nervous and asked if we could talk about hunting and fishing so he could refrain from crying. It was quite sweet but also the last thing I wanted to talk about!

The speeches were great. We separated the speeches so they were done in 2 stages throughout the day which was the best as we really got to enjoy each speaker.

Our food was insane! I cannot recommend Sugar Fish enough. Not only can they cook up the most delicious food, but they also have the best service. Espresso Martini’s made by the crew of Sip Caravan Bar using Batched cocktails were not only delicious but gave us way too much confidence after dinner with our dance moves.

We got married the day of the Tsunami which through a spanner in the works, but not many people get to say they got married during a lockdown and Tsunami warning.

Our band, Vegas Brown trio were a hit! We had no first dance planned and always said we would wing an impromptu dance to whatever the band played first which ended up being Superstition by Stevie Wonder. Pulling Shaka’s was my signature move unfortunately haha.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

Don’t stress the small things or worry about anything out of your control. The person you marry is your partner in crime and will always be there for you before anyone else, so make sure you nurture that every day. Be kind and love the simple things the most.
